Maybe it’s just disrespectful and just leaves a bad impression, but is it a sin?
Been there - Heard that.I’m just not sure if I’m overreacting about this. At my age, every other kid I know just uses it in casual conversation and I just didn’t know if that was “bad” at all. It might be “naughty” but is it “bad”?
In a sense, everything is a matter of good vs evil.…I just always thought it was merely a personal choice, not a matter of good versus evil.
I’d probably say the exact same thing. I don’t think it would be a sin- unless I scandalized someone (like if I said it in front of my grandparents. But are there certain situations that warrant it just happening? Like say I saw somebody get hit by a car and I say “holy s***”!
That would be okay wouldn’t it?
And it’s not like I’d go to hell for just cussing anyway. Right?
I disagree that anger is a sin. It is an emotion. I think in Ephesians Paul writes “in your anger, do not sin” implying that anger can lead to sin, but is not sin in itself. I guess cussing could be an example of that.Cussing is, most of the time, coming from anger. Anger is a big sin. It is hard not to control our anger sometimes.![]()
Why go to Paul when you have Jesus:I disagree that anger is a sin. It is an emotion. I think in Ephesians Paul writes “in your anger, do not sin” implying that anger can lead to sin, but is not sin in itself. I guess cussing could be an example of that.
Doesn’t seem to me that Jesus would disagree with Paul, or that I disagree with them. Anger left unaddressed can lead to all sorts of sin.Why go to Paul when you have Jesus
Matthew 5:21-26 (NAB)
"You have heard the commandment imposed on your forefathers, ‘You shall not commit murder; every murderer shall be liable to judgement.’ What I say to you is: everyone who grows angry with his brother shall be liable to judgement; any man who uses** abusive language ** toward his brother shall be answerable to the sanhedren and if he holds him in contempt he risks the fires of Gehenna…
I did not copy all the verses, but basically Jesus declares what to do, leave your offering - settle on the way to court - be reconciled to your brother -
In other words you may get angry - that’s an emotional reaction - but while you are angry you are in a state of sin until you somehow reconcile the sin.
James
You misunderstand.Doesn’t seem to me that Jesus would disagree with Paul, or that I disagree with them. Anger left unaddressed can lead to all sorts of sin.
