Dad's having surgery today

Thank you all so very much! :thankyou:

The replacement went well, just as it did last time. Surgery lasted 3½ hours. Three and a half hours after he left the operating room, Dad was already taking a few steps forwards and backwards under the supervision of his physical therapist. Yesterday he walked 100 steps in the morning and the same amount again in the afternoon. In general, he’s in good spirits. So far, so good!

Dad’s still on self-administered morphine but may come off it today. I’m a little concerned about that because despite being able to have morphine whenever he wants he can still feel some pain, so I’m not sure what he’ll be like once the morphine is gone. At least he isn’t totally exhausted this time like he was in the days immediately following the first knee replacement.

My deepest gratitude, once again, for all your thoughts and prayers. May God bless each and every one of you! :yup:
I am very happy for your Dad and I wish him fast recovery. I am also happy for him that he has a caring son in you. God Bless you and your family!

Memorare (Prayer to Our Lady)
Remember, O most gracious Virgin Mary, that never was it known that anyone who fled to your protection, implored your help, or sought your intercession, was left unaided.
Inspired by this confidence, I fly unto you, O Virgin of virgins, my Mother. To you do I come, before you I stand, sinful and sorrowful. O Mother of the Word Incarnate, despise not my petitions, but in your mercy, hear and answer me. Amen

Thank you, thank you so much everyone! Two days after the surgery Dad was moved to a clinic where he will continue his recovery and physical therapy for a couple of weeks before going home, at which point he’ll probably be visited by a physical therapist a few times per week for a month or two. Four days ago (sorry for the delay in posting the update - for reasons unrelated to dad’s hospitalization things are kinda crazy right now) they switched out the morphine on demand for some industrial strength painkiller in tablet form. It seems to be working for him. Mom says he wasn’t in any visible discomfort the last time she saw him. (Because I live overseas from them, I rely on her eyewitness accounts for all news on his progress.) Anyway, if this is anything like the first knee replacement the worst is already over. My family and I continue to be grateful for your thoughts and prayers  God bless all of you!

Awww, you’re making me blush :blushing: Thanks for your kind words! Dad and I have our differences, but he’s still my dad and I’m just doing what I hope any child would do for a parent in a similar situation.

BTW, there’s no way for you to have known this based upon my posts and profile alone, but just for the record I’m a daughter :curtsey:

Pater noster, qui es in cælis,
Father our, Who are in Heaven,

sanctificetur nomen tuum:
may be sanctified name Your:

Adveniat regnum tuum:
May come reign Your:

Fiat voluntas tua sicut in cælo,
may be done will Your just as in heaven,

et in terra. Panem nostrum quotidianum
and on earth. Bread our daily

da nobis hodie:
give to us today:

Et dimitte nobis debita nostra,
And forgive us debts our,

sicut et nos dimittimus debitoribus nostris.
just as we forgive debtors our.

Et ne nos inducas in tentationem.
And do not us lead into temptation.

Sed libera nos a malo. Amen.
But free us from evil. Amen.

Hail Mary, full of grace.
The Lord is with thee.
Blessed art thou among women,
and blessed is the fruit of thy womb,
Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother of God,
pray for us sinners,
now and at the hour of our death.
Amen.
