Dads Passing.

My Father passed away recently. He was an Invalid, but stayed home and received communion brought to him. He passed away prior to receiving the anointing of the sick. My Sister is upset that he is not going to heaven. I find this hard to believe. My simple mind can’t comprehend the thought of him not going to heaven. Plenty of people pass away without the anointing of the sick.

There is no teaching of the Church that one must receive the annointing of the sick to be saved. Your Sister is wrong.

Hopefully he received the Anointing of the Sick sometime within the last several months and had a chance to go to Confession in the past month.
 
if he had been receiving communion brought to him at home while he was sick he surely had the chance to ask for a priest to come here his confession or anoint him if he felt that he needed it. It is more than likely that at his age and in his condition he simply did not have any mortal sins to confess, and was in the state of grace when he died. Anointing of the sick is not required for salvation, your sister has been misinformed, please put her mind at rest on this. We don’t know exactly when our loved ones get to heaven, which is why we pray for them and have masses said for them, but we know that a good man who loves and trusts in God and has hope of and desire for union with God in heaven rests in God’s mercy–a beautiful place to be.

Greetings Waterguy;

Having read your post I can only echo the sentiments of what others here have written and offer my sincere condolences in your fathers recent death. You can (“undoubted”) rest assured that your father’s soul is resting in God’s care. My father too was an invalid…(“quadriplegic”) on full life support for eleven years after a tragic accidental fall in my parish church. It will be two years this coming Christmas since he passed away. Thinking of you are your family in this difficult time.
