Wow, threads in this sub-forum always seem to end up debating SSPX…

Back on topic, we are blessed to have daily Extraordinary Form Mass in the Diocese of Lexington. It’s not a separate parish but an FSSP apostolate approved by the Bishop that meets in St. Peter’s Church downtown. 4 pm Sunday (usually Missa Cantata, often with incense and torches), 7 am Monday through Friday, and 8 am Saturday. The priest is also a Franciscan friar.

Our good bishop celebrated traditional Confirmation followed by Pontifical High Mass there last year. I regret that I did not go that day. (I usually go about once a month - my parish has a very reverent and traditional OF and I’m quite happy there, but like to experience the EF on occasion.) The Diocese’s newest and youngest priest (ordained last year) also occasionally celebrates the EF for that community. This same priest is also the only priest I’ve ever seen in this area who actually wears a biretta for Mass.

That’s a wonderful website 🙂
I’m really impressed that the young priest wears a biretta!! Sometimes the future seems so bleak, but there’s definitely hope 🙂

Well of course it does. The SSPX is in great part the only reason we even have the Traditional Mass these days and by extension this very forum. They kept it alive when almost the entire Church turned it’s collective back on it. There were only a few, very few places where you could even find a Traditional Mass except at SSPX Chapels. That is the reality.

Traditionalists know this and so do the more progressive among us. The more progressive, who wanted the Traditional Mass dead and buried are furious that it is around and growing and who better to be furious at then the SSPX. They are the most obvious targets of the progressives hatred. Many of us, myself included, who have no particular love for the SSPX, often feel compelled to step up in their defense when the progressives mount one of their all too frequent attacks.

It is good to remember that we reached the position the Church is in today because too many people turned a blind eye to what was really going on until it was too late.

We will not make that mistake again.

Actually the Traditional Mass is the reason the Latin Rite still has a Mass at all. Take the 1600 years of it away and what would you have?

However, it’s not the topic of this thread, and crops up in many other threads where it’s not the topic.

I don’t want to debate SSPX. I’ll just say that I’m happy that the Extraordinary Form is becoming more available, however it got that way. I don’t want to switch to it, but I love having it available and hope it is soon readily available in every region, and that the OF is celebrated reverently everywhere.

Have you approached your bishop on the subject?
The first Mass every Sunday at our cathedral is recited in Latin.
I believe in our diocese, if enough people petitioned, Mass is said in Latin.

Holy Rosary Parish in Indianapolis has an Extraordinary Mass every day. High Mass on Sunday at 9:30AM and Low Mass through the week unless something special is going on. This parish used to be a FSSP parish, but is now a regular diocesan parish. In our Archdiocese we also have a FSSP parish in southern Indiana that operates daily.

The Extraordinary Mass is spreading in popularity, and for that I am very glad.

I would, but I’m moving in seven months. There’s only one Latin Mass parish in the diocese, and there’s a fight to get a second one (the bishop doesn’t seem to want to allow it.)

Anyway both cities are on opposite ends of the diocese, and I’m smack dab in the middle :o. It’s quite a far drive!

May God be with you in your move. New home, new beginnings. Hope.
Most people who want a Latin Mass/Mass recited in Latin are facing a big drive to find one (in more ways than one) and this is not always possible, a lot depends on one’s physical health.

They’re schismatics of corse! Not in full union yet.

I’m asking btw vecause eventually I’d like to end up in one of these places so that I can take my kids to daily mass in Latin, not just weekly, if at all possible.
They are not schismatics. The PCED has been very clear that they (the SSPX) are not schismatics, or outside the Church. They are suspended a divinis. They are not in full communion. But they are not schismatics and they are not outside the Church. That is why Rome says this is an internal matter - because they are still Catholics, but not in full communion at this time (meaning they still have communion, just not full).

To the original question, FSSP in Atlanta has Mass on a daily basis. I also believe in Arkansas as well. (I think possibly 2 places in Arkansas.)

St. John Cantius in Chicago also has daily TLM.

Some of the Institute of Christ the King parishes also have it.

Check Clear Creek Monastery, too. I have heard a lot of tradition minded families are moving to their community. I am not sure if the TLM is daily there, but if people are relocating there, I would think it would be.

SSPX masses may be valid but are still illicit. Palmas is expressing only a personal opinion and does not speak for the Church.
Off topic, but this needs clarification.

You are wrong, the PCED issued a letter in response to Brian Mershon on this issue and they confirmed what Palmas is saying. They specifically mentioned that their private letter tp Brian Mershon was authoritative and could be relied on with moral certitude.

Also note that, Cardinal Castrillon Hoyos was President of the PCED and he also spoke many times on this topic, also confirming what Palmas said. As President of the PCED, he was incharge of the dealings and status if the SSPX. He had full authority to speak on this topic. He was not giving personal opinion. This was his job.

Fr. Z., also acknolwledges that it is OK to attend Mass at an SSPX Chapel and that it does fulfil ones Sunday obligation.

Neither Rome, or Fr. Z., encourage it on a regular basis but you can attend without fear of sin or sanctions and your Sunday obligation will be fulfilled. They lay out some things to beware off, but that would be for the individual to judge for themselves , not you or anyone else on here, as it is dealing with the interior position of the person attending Mass at an SSPX chapel.

Thanks 😃 I cannot wait, finally I’ll be doing things that I’ve been dreaming of my entire life! (Latin Mass, returning to my “homeland,” learning Polish, etc)

The SSPX believe the Catholic Church is schismatic and declared itself officially crippled (many in SSPX would claim defunct) with Vatican 2, and has continued dying ever since.

Let’s pray there’s a Divine Mercy Chapel near your new home. Beautiful devotion and ‘anchor’ for ‘Polish nostalgia’.

There’s a Polish neighborhood complete with its own parish as well 😃 I’d hate to church hop… but I know I will every so often 🙂

Things are looking up already. And they’ll be a lot of people to look up:thumbsup:
Church hopping? A change can be as good as a holiday (or a holy-day:D)

If you can…google “Father Donald Kloster youtube talks”. I never heard anyone speak about the Latin Rite the way he does. The talks are short and there are four of them and he explains things so well for those trying to understand the EF. His talks are so powerful. He has a gift.

They may be some truth to that, although I would not paint with a broad brush here. And individuals within the SSPX rank may not be the only ones who believe some factions of the Catholic Church are indeed schismatic. You even had several schismatic threats from some bishops (right before the 2007 SP in fact) unless the Holy Father changed the wording on his Motu Proprio. Why was this dismissed as trivial?
and has continued dying ever since.
We’ll let the statisticians deal with that claim.
