Hi everyone,

What is your preferred Latin missal? I have a St. Joseph that I’m using right now that I honestly don’t like using. It has a weird translation (I think confraternity) and its a little too old. I thought about getting a different missal but it really seems like the two best missals are Angelus Press and Baronius.

So, which missal is your favorite? Baronius or Angelus?

Also, does anyone have an extra one that they may be willing to sell or get rid of to someone who will prayerfully use it?

Thank you all so very much and God bless!

My preference is the Angelus Press. I bought a Baronius Press DR Bible and was not impressed with the gold leaf on the cover. It started falling off within a week of me using it.

Just my opinion though.

The Angelus Press edition is smaller than the Baronius edition. This is largely because the pages are very thin in the Angelus Press edition. So thin, in fact, that I found sometimes the text from the next page would show through and make it difficult to read. Don’t get me wrong it is a high quality missal and would be a fine choice if you are OK with thin pages. It’s smaller, more compact size (as far as missals go) is to its advantage.

I own the Baronius edition. I can attest that it is a beautiful missal. The binding and cover are of very high quality, like all Baronius products. The pages are sturdier than the Angelus edition, but of course, this makes for a thicker missal. I find that the pages lay nicely, and do not require an excessive amount of “breaking in”. The Order of the Mass is found in the dead center of the missal (as it is in most), and this makes for a very balanced feel in the hand. Also, the Baronius edition contains certain prayers/feasts particular to dioceses throughout the world which adds to its bulk. While this is a nice addition, most people would only use 2 or 3 of those 100 pages. A con of the Baronius edition is that the ribbons seem to fray very easily. I ended up putting clear nail polish on the ends of my ribbons and that has helped enormously to prevent fraying.

It is of note that the same illustrations are found throughout both missals. They are the beautiful, old style black and white images that are so common in traditional Catholic books and devotions.

Just my two cents. Both are excellent choices, but I am admittedly partial to Baronius Press.

I voted for the Angelus Press Missal, but more or less by default. Of the two, it’s the only one I have, so I can’t compare the two. But it is of high quality and of a size that is comfortable to use. I’m pleased with it and have no complaints at all. Since I would recommend it, I voted for it.

Thank you all! I will continue to take suggestions, I’m still milling this decision over in my head!

I like the organization of the Angelus so much more than the Baronius. The Baronius can feel like a wall of text as you try to go through it but the Angelus has the propers boxed out and the preface flows right with the order of the Mass. The Angelus you have to continually flip through and make multiple marks to go back to. I like the small build of the Angelus as well.
