As a protestant, I have begun feeling a pull towards the catholic church and have attended Mass on Sunday for the last 3 weeks. I have found it very sacred and inspiring. The church here offers daily Mass and was wondering if it is ok for me to attend this service on a semi regular basis? not instead of sunday, but in addition.

My first thought is that it may seem redundant, as I cannot participate in communion. But I don’t know.

Thoughts?

It’s perfectly fine. Non-Catholics are invited to come and participate in our celebration of the Eucharist, sans reception of the Sacrament, as you seem well aware.

Going to Mass more is never redundant. It is never required, but can certainly bring more grace to you. Perhaps pray a prayer of spiritual communion during the reception of communion if you don’t already.

SW Myers:

RobNY is so correct! My 2 cents: Never reject an urge to attend Mass! Daily Mass gives you the chance to enjoy a more intimate, quiet, peaceful opportunity to join us all in prayer. never go expecting to get somethign out of it, but with the desire to put yourself into it … It’s a time for you to visit Our Lord as deeply as you can, thank Him for the many blessings you have received and ask for the grace to know what to do next in life.

Here’s the standard Spiritual Communion prayer many of us say:

My Jesus, I believe that You are present in the Most Holy Sacrament. I love You above all things, and I desire to receive You into my soul. Since I cannot at this moment receive You sacramentally, come at least spiritually into my heart. I embrace You as if You were already there and unite myself wholly to You. Never permit me to be separated from You.

Feel free to use your own words. God bless you this holy season.

One of the nice things about going to daily Mass is that with each reading of the Liturgy of the Word, you do get different Scripture, Psalm and Gospel passages that help you center on a certain theme. The Word that you hear at daily Mass is usually different than the ones given on Sunday.

So, please, attend, worship, and praise!

It isn’t redundant. Please do come. Don’t worry at all. At my parish we have some regulars even at daily mass that never go up and receive. You are welcome to come!

Hi

Sure you can attend mass everyday. No Problem. BTW - Every Catholic Church has daily mass, or at least 6 out of 7 days, with one communion only service, as my Parish does.

The Host and the Cup really ARE the body and Blood of Our Lord. If you want, you may also go to Adoration, if that Parish has it - otherwise ask around I’m sure there is a Parish that has it. That is where the Host is exposed, you may sit in front - or kneel - and meditate/Pray whatever. You will KNOW it is Him. I was amazed the first time I did this.

anyway - hope that helped

Peace

John

Thanks for the reply’s. I have been going up and receiving a blessing during communion on Sundays, is that proper for daily mass? or should I stay seated?

By all means! You may go up and recieve A Blessing at Daily Mass. I am also A Convert, I started my journey with Daily Mass, whenever possible.

Godspeed and Bless on your journey.

PS Dont let the debate for or against, TLM and NO discourage you. I’m A TLM man myself. But Novus Ordo on weekdays. Thats the beauty of the Catholic Church! All are One! Same Sacrifice just different rite.

Yes, go, go GO! If I could make the mass times work, I would go as often as they’d let me. As it stands, I’ve been to one daily. They ARE much more intimate. As was said previously, they are not an obligation but you can still get a lot out of them.

Go, Go, Go!!! I did when I was converting. It was wonderful. There is nothing wrong with it. If anything, it will enrich your faith and make it grow deeper.

Absolutely go! I’m in the same postion as you are- not Catholic but hopefully going to be one day. I go to Daily Mass whenever I can (which isn’t often, seeing as I have school. But I just had Spring Break, and I was there each day they had it.) During the summer last year, I went quite often.

I know it sounds odd, but I kind of like Daily Mass better than Sunday. There’s no choir distracting me, Father says all of the prayers out loud… On Sunday he doesn’t because the choir is singing. And there’s less people (which, may or may not be a good thing), and lastly, it just seems that everybody WANTS to be there. I like it.

My girlfriend went to Mass every day for two years before she converted 🙂 (this was before I met her). So yes, go as often as the Spirit moves you 🙂 .

Of course you can attend what a better way to start your day or split your day up if you attend noon Mass. For you the Mass is a formal means of prayer since you are not fully united to the Catholic Church at this time and cannot participate in the Sacraments.

Interesting, so is that the proper attitude I should take towards Mass? As a means of formal prayer?

It is not redundant. It will help draw you closer.

I was a Methodist married to my Catholic wife. I attended Mass every week with her for 10 years before I became a Catholic. Actually, as a non-Catholic at that time, I probably attended Mass more often than many Catholics. Of course during that time I could not receive Communion.
My wife prayed like St Monica did for St Augustine and finally I received the grace to know the truth.

might I add a question in on this topic that’s somewhat related:

at daily Mass, if we are not a full thrown Catholic yet (I’m only bapitized). Are we allowed to participate and say what everyone else is? Or should we just observe?

Yes, Pope Paul VI called the Mass the highest form of prayer. Those participating are united in prayer to the Sacrifice of the cross.

You cannot at this time participate Sacramentally.

Yes you can “pray” the Mass.
