Matthew 10:16-23
If your stomach gets tied up in knots
*** every time you hear the word “evangelization,”***
*** let today’s Gospel encourage you.***
- Jesus promised his disciples that whenever they opened their mouths, it would not be just them speaking but the Holy Spirit speaking through them.
- How great is that?
One way to ease into evangelizing is to develop a plan of action.
When the time is right, you will know it, because the Holy Spirit will give you a nudge and let you know that an opening has presented itself.
- And that plan should always begin with prayer!
- Sit down with a sheet of paper and ask the Holy Spirit to bring to mind a few people you know who might benefit from hearing about Jesus.
- These could be family members, friends and neighbors, or coworkers.
- Next, make it a point to pray for these people every day.
- Ask the Lord to bless them, heal them, and most importantly to open their minds and hearts to hear his word.
Once you have laid the groundwork with prayer and intercession, ***
all it takes is patience and alertness
for the right moment
*** to share your faith.
- Plus, since you have been praying regularly,
- you will be more open to the Spirit’s promptings!
- Maybe a friend who is on your list drops by and shares a difficult situation with you.
- Perhaps a coworker you have been praying for tells you she is having a problem with addiction to alcohol.
- Maybe during a phone call a relative mentions that he has been feeling bored or listless lately.
Whatever the situation, when you recognize that an opportunity has presented itself, take a deep breath and let the Holy Spirit go to work.
- What to say when the big moment arrives?
- Tell the person that Jesus loves them and can help them.
- Tell them that it is going to be okay.
- Share how your faith has strengthened you in similar circumstances.
- Promise to support them in prayer. Then watch how the Spirit works in them.
You will be amazed!
“Jesus, as you sent the apostles out to preach the good news, I ask you to send me also. I want everyone to have the same relationship with you that I have. Holy Spirit,
embolden me to push through my fears,
so that others may come to know
your great love.”
