Matthew 10: 7-15
Thursday 10July 2008
The disciples had traveled with Jesus about all of Galilee and had seen and heard him preach the gospel of the kingdom.
  • Not only did they hear him preach,
  • they saw him take authority over demons and heal all kinds of sicknesses among the people.
  • Now Jesus calls them together and gives them the authority and power to do what they had seen him doing:
  • "Make this proclamation: ‘The kingdom of heaven is at hand.’
  • Cure the sick, raise the dead, cleanse lepers, drive out demons" (Matthew 10:7-8).
In other words, Jesus told them to proclaim the kingdom both with their words and with their actions

.
The miracles they performed were meant to be proof that the kingdom really was at hand!

What does the kingdom of God look like?
  • It is God breaking into a world darkened by sin.
  • It is love, joy, and peace instead of hatred, sorrow, and war.
  • It is restoration instead of destruction.
  • It is God at work, cleansing and healing his beloved people.
It isn’t just learning the right doctrine or knowing the Ten Commandments, as important as that is.
  • It also includes God working in our hearts so that we love one another and share his love and healing power with everyone we meet.
  • The kingdom of heaven came when God sent his Son into the world.
  • Jesus came so that we could realize the full potential that God gave each of us at creation—that we could be his sons and daughters experiencing the benefits of such an exalted position.
The kingdom of heaven has truly come, and we are to be its ambassadors.
  • We can be that healing presence of Jesus to all we meet.
  • We really can be the hands and feet and voice of Jesus until he comes again.
  • Listen to the quiet voice of the Holy Spirit within you, and he will guide and teach you how to be an ambassador for Christ.
“Holy Spirit, make me a powerful witness to the love and mercy of Christ. Take away my complacency and fear when it comes to announcing the kingdom. Help me see people as you see them, and to love them as you do. Jesus, I want to be one of your ambassadors!”
