Isaiah 7:1-9
***Today is the opening of the twenty-third World Youth Day ***
***in ***
Sydney, Australia.
  • Pope John Paul II began World Youth Day as a way of reaching young people from around the globe with the message of the gospel.
  • John Paul loved youth and never stopped calling them to be witnesses for Christ
  • and to live out their faith with enthusiasm and hope.
Since the first World Youth Day in 1986, millions of young people have been touched and transformed through this event.

The theme of this year’s gathering is, “You will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you, and you will be my witnesses” (Acts 1:8).
  • Imagine the grace that will be present today as hundreds of thousands of young people unite to pray with brothers and sisters from other lands and cultures!
  • Think of the grace they will receive to affirm their baptism
  • and fall more deeply in love with Jesus!
  • Who knows?
  • Maybe they will all return home with a new zeal to proclaim Christ’s love to everyone they meet.
Surely they will need all the grace they can get.
  • Young people are confronted by a culture that in so many ways runs counter to the values of the gospel.
  • They are told that success, power, and pleasure will bring them fulfillment.
  • And because they are young and more impressionable,
  • the temptation to buy into that lie can be very strong.
But while so many older folks write off the next generation as hopeless, Pope Benedict XVI has not.
  • He believes that Jesus can still be a light in the darkness, encouraging and inspiring them.
  • How can you help to shine that light?
  • *** First, you can pray that everyone at World Youth Day will experience God’s love in a powerful, life-changing way.***
  • And if you are one of the thousands in Sydney today, you can take comfort and inspiration from the knowledge that so many are praying for you.
Believe that the Holy Spirit really does want to pour special grace upon you in these next few days.
  • All of us—old or young—can be filled by God
  • . And all of us—old or young—can become his witnesses!
“Lord, pour out your Spirit on the youth in Sydney today. Give them and all young people your grace, hope, and healing. Send us all out to change the world!”

Have had EWTN on, almost all day. No coverage yet. :nope: Probably because you’re a day ahead of us “Down Under”! Or maybe I’ve just missed what’s been shown! Oh, I hope not!

Gotta go check the TV again! 😃

Hi MV…The Holy Father is still taking a three day rest break in an Opus Dei foundation in bushland on the outskirts of Sydney. We did see a very short news item showing him attending a personal private Mass and also a walk in the gardens also an evening of classical music…all just very short news items with very short film clip. I dont think we will be seeing The Holy Father publicly until Thursday, but am unsure of this.
There can be a time difference between countries…here is a link to the World Time Clock. You can set it up through the link to the “Personal Time Clock” so you know the time in another country at the same time as your own local time:

I can’t watch TV on this computer for some reason that I am hoping to have looked at, along with sound, in early August…hence I cannot watch EWTN - I dont have it on the house TV here either. Is there an EWTN program guide on the internet?

Blessings…Barb:)

I found this, Barb. Maybe it will be of help to you. Sorry you can’t see it on the computer. Maybe you can listen, though? Via the radio link?

Thanks for the cool clock, too! God bless.

Hi MV…I saw Cardinal Pell’s Opening Mass in full last night on TV and am hoping that most all the celebrations will be on TV. Do you know how I go about listening on the radio in Sth. Australia, or how I can find out? …also can I listen to EWTN on the radio? I might phone our diocesan offices and find out if they can be of any help. I am not clued up at all on technology. My son will be here for a flying visit from another state in three weeks or so and I am hoping he can make the adjustments so I can watch TV and also have sound on this computer.

Blessings - Barb:)
