1 Peter 1:18-25
How does a great leader inspire people? Usually by giving them confidence.
- A general tells his soldiers they are superior to any enemy.
- A business executive tells his company that they can outsmart their competitors.
- .A coach tells his players they have the stamina and strength to win the big game.
For a leader, it all boils down to getting people to believe they have what it takes to do the job. It’s really what’s inside of them that counts.
That’s what Peter is trying to accomplish here.
- He is writing to the Christians of Asia Minor, who are facing persecution for their faith.
- He is exhorting them to live a holy life,
- but not just by telling them to do better.
- He reminds them of who they are.
- They are children of God, ransomed from their sins by the imperishable seed of Christ’s blood.
- They no longer have to live under the power of sin
- . They just have to rely on what Jesus has done for them. Living in his grace, they are unstoppable!
As we face a world filled with temptation, Peter’s words can be an important reminder:
- No matter how difficult it may seem to live the Christian life, we don’t walk alone.
- God has carved us on the palms of his hands.
- Jesus has redeemed us and called us each by name.
- We are his, and absolutely nothing in this world can take us from his love.
- These aren’t just comforting thoughts—they are as real as the blood Jesus shed for us!
When you go to pray today, take these truths with you. You may feel a million miles from God right now.
- Maybe you’ve said something you regretted, and you can’t stop blaming yourself for it.
- Maybe you’ve fallen into the same bad habit,
- and the devil is beating you down with guilt.
*** Don’t listen to him—or to any condemning voice***!
- God knows you are sorry.
- Just spend some time thanking him for his mercy
- and reflecting on the depth of his love for you.
- Let your mind be renewed.
You really are a new creation in Christ!
“Lord, your love is beyond anything I can imagine or express! Your goodness is everlasting.
May I never cease to praise
*** your all-powerful grace and mercy***.”
