I actually kind of wish the Church would make a Lectionary with the Douay Rheims, and give Priests in the US the freedom to choose between a DR and a NAB Lectionary.

I love the old Douay Rheims Bible - it is our Catholic equivalent to the Protestant KJV.

I firmly believe every single English speaking Catholic household ought to own a Douay Rheims Bible. It’s impossible to understand Roman Catholic English speaking patrimony without understanding the Douay Rheims Bible.

The problem with offering the freedom of choice for priests to choose between translations is that it becomes a lot more difficult for the people to follow- for those who like to follow along- if they have a different translation.

What English speaking Catholic patrimony are you referring to here, that wrote in D/R English?

Most of the Catholic literature I’ve seen is translations usually from Latin, and not too much in English at all, particularly old school English.

The thing is, Douay Rheims was THE Bible for Catholics in English for a long, long time.

Now all of a sudden, a new version every few years…

I think a lot of people want something more modern sounding.

Besides, the projects keep the bible translators busy and off the street, gainfully employed
