Daily Morning Mass

I go because love to go. Its so peaceful although I wish more people my age (40) would go to the Sat 9am mass as I guess that the age of the average person at that mass is 65. Although that mass has about 200 people at it. Its so quiet before the Mass. During the week if I can I go to 12:10 pm mass. Its good to see 20-40 Capital Hill professionals going to mass. Not everybody in DC is a rotten apple.
 
I try to go every morning I do not have to be at work early. I go for the main reason of attaining Christ through the Eucharist. However, I find that going to mass as often as I can helps keep me focused. I feel good when I walk out, like I could conquer the world. In the times of today woth so much out there to distract us from Christ’s message, it is good to recharge your batteries and stay focused.🙂

Certainly we are encouraged to attend daily Mass, but for many working people it isn’t practical or possible. I said for years once I retired, I would attend daily Mass. Then, 10 years ago I lost my husband somewhat suddenly. On the 1st anniversary of his death, I wanted to be sure to go to Mass and the day fell on a Wednesday, so I found a local parish that had a 7:00 a.m. Mass which would still give me enough time to get to work. It was such a wonderful experience that I made it a weekly occurence, attending every Wed. It was like a mid-week pick me up.

I have since remarried and now my husband and I attend every day, both of us are still working people, however it is such an important part of our day to attend morning Mass. When we miss for whatever reason, or if we are on ‘vacation’ and get lazy, it throws us completely out of sync and we can’t wait to get back to daily Mass.

So the answer for me is I attend because I love to be nourished by the Word and the Eucharist.
 
Daily Mass is a wonderful gift that we as Catholics have that most other faiths do not, further proof of our inique position in Christianity. I try to go as often as possible.
 
When I was in college, I went to morning Mass most days, including when I was home for the summer. The reason was that it was far more reverential than Sunay Mass, which at that time was already a zoo in most places, and that I felt I was surrounded by people who felt the same way.
 
I’ll tell ya, what put this into perspective for me was reading a little book by Fulton Sheen called Seven Deadly Sins. He was writing about health clubs, and said that it was sad for so many temples for the body, which has a shelf life, to be erected but Christ to be alone in so many tabernacles throughout the world. Thus, bodies are glorified but souls are starving. This hit home! I couldn’t imagine not going to the gym every day, yet I only went to a weekday Mass when it was convenient. Poor Jesus!
So now I won’t let myself go to the gym unless I go to morning mass first. And it has to be in that order, otherwise I might get lazy and talk myself out of Mass.

Of course the Eucharist is a prime reasn but I like the quietness of the Church and the getting focused on God to start my day. Helps one keep God focused the rest of the day.

The sacraments confer God’s grace upon us each time we participate. If I can attend daily Mass and receive Our Lord each time I go, suddenly His grace begins to inform every movement of my heart and mind. It’s not something that can be explained, but I can tell you that for me, His truth is revealed through the frequent reception of the sacraments, including regular Confession. I bring my tired and worn down soul to His house and His table and He refreshes me. Apart from human reasoning and understanding, I begin to see truth everywhere and because I know myself and my fallen nature, I know all glory must go to Him. This is what grace does for me so I want to receive it through the Sacraments He gave us. >>

I have noticed a difference in myself since I returned to the Church. Maybe starting even before I actually went
to Mass again for the first time but had already been thinking about going. Since I’ve been going to Mass weekly and Adoration weekly (sometimes a couple times a week) the changes are becoming more and more strong. My heart has softened quite a bit.
 
I started going a couple of years ago during Lent, and I just haven’t been able to stop. I am able to go to 6:30 Mass 3 mornings a week before I have to be at work at 7:05. I am drawn there. I go because even if everything else goes wrong that day, I know that at least one thing went right! I go for the grace and the peace. I go because I can hear the Word of God. I go because it is quiet and peaceful and I can pray in the presence of the Lord. I go to receive the Eucharist. I like the brief homilies - I’ve learned a lot and sometimes I remember them better than the lengthier Sunday ones. I am very grateful that we as Catholics have this opportunity during the week.
 
I attend our 8AM Mass and during the summer there were usually about 50 of us and we all came to know each other. Now, that school has started we have about 500 children every day, but I like that too. I love the homilies that the priest gives with the children in mind. I have learned so much just from listening to what he is telling the children.🙂
