This is a Monthly Liturgy reference thread. Updates to the thread will be posted daily and a new thread will be opened each month. The information is offered here in the hope that you will make the Church’s liturgical cycle part of your own daily****prayer life.
You can subscribe to this thread for email reminders each day by clicking the link above that says “Thread Tools” and then clicking “Subscribe to this thread.” If email reminders are selected in your profile, you will get an email the first time a post is added to the thread since your last visit.
  • All links are in bright blue format.
  • The overview of the month is given in the Opening Post of each month only.
Each daily posting has two Posts for that day
PLEASE NOTE
that only the Readings from Terce, Sext and None (mid morning, middy, afternoon prayers) from Prayers for the Divine Office are currently being posted. As yet I have been able to find a site which posts these Hours in full daily.
At the end of the month the thread will be closed and a new thread opened for the new month. Now that we’ve covered the basics, let’s start praying.
If any questions remain, please contact the forum moderator.

AUGUST 2008
Overview of August
(All information has been gleaned from
Catholic Culture - here)

August is dedicated to
Immaculate Heart of Mary
http://www.catholicculture.org/liturgicalyear/overviews/months/images/aug_immaculate.jpg

The month of August is dedicated to The Immaculate Heart of Mary. The entire month falls within the liturgical season of Ordinary Time, which is represented by the liturgical color green. This symbol of hope is the color of the sprouting seed and arouses in the faithful the hope of reaping the eternal harvest of heaven, especially the hope of a glorious resurrection. It is used in the offices and Masses of Ordinary Time. The last portion of the liturgical year represents the time of our pilgrimage to heaven during which we hope for reward.

August is often considered the transitional month in our seasonal calendar. It is the time of the year we begin to wind-down from our summer travels and vacations and prepare for Autumn — back to school, fall festivals, harvest time, etc. The Church in her holy wisdom has provided a cycle of events in its liturgical year which allow the faithful to celebrate the major feasts in the life of Christ and Mary. Most notably, during August, we celebrate the feast of the Transfiguration and the feast of the Assumption.

**The feasts on the **

Please note that the site I usually use for the Reading Meditation has now been changed to a paid subscription site; therefore from 5August, I am changing to another free site.
If you have been unable to open the link for the Reading Meditation prior to 5August, I apologize; however the site I usually use changed to a paid subscription site without my being aware of such.

From the 5August onwards, there should be no problem opening the meditation link to the new
free site.

Blessings…Barb
