“St. Therese of the Child Jesus would have liked to learn the languages of the Bible in order to better understand Sacred Scripture. Following her example and that of St. Jerome, dedicate time to frequent reading of the Bible. By familiarizing yourselves with the Word of God, you will discover Christ and remain in intimate contact with Him.”
Benedict XVI (14 Nov 2007)

*The last three days of Holy Week are referred to as the Easter or Sacred Triduum (Triduum Sacrum), the three-part drama of Christ’s redemption: Holy Thursday, Good Friday and Holy Saturday. *
http://www.catholicculture.org/liturgicalyear/pictures/holy_thursday_last_supper.jpg

Holy Thursday is also known as “Maundy Thursday.” The word maundy comes from the Latin word mandatum (commandment) which is the first word of the Gospel acclamation:*Mandátum novum do vobis dicit Dóminus, ut diligátis ínvicem, sicut diléxi vos: *

“I give you a new commandment: Love one another as I have loved you.” (John 13:34)

*The last three days of Holy Week are referred to as the Easter or Sacred Triduum (Triduum Sacrum), the three-part drama of Christ’s redemption: Holy Thursday, Good Friday and Holy Saturday. *

Today, Good Friday, the whole Church mourns the death of our Savior. This is traditionally a day of sadness, spent in fasting and prayer
http://www.catholicculture.org/liturgicalyear/pictures/hwgoodfri.jpg
Following the ancient tradition of the Church, there are no sacraments celebrated on Good Friday nor Holy Saturday. “Celebration of the Lord’s Passion,” traditionally known as the “Mass of the Presanctified,” (although it is not a mass) is usually celebrated around three o’clock in the afternoon, or later, depending on the needs of the parish.

*The last three days of Holy Week are referred to as the Easter or Sacred Triduum (Triduum Sacrum), the three-part drama of Christ’s redemption: Holy Thursday, Good Friday and Holy Saturday. *
Fasting and abstinence is encouraged for Holy Saturday also.

The Blessed Virgin Mary, as she waits near the Lord’s tomb, as she is represented in Christian tradition, is an icon of the Virgin Church keeping vigil at the tomb of her Spouse while awaiting the celebration of his resurrection.
http://www.catholicculture.org/liturgicalyear/pictures/madonna_bellini.jpg
While the body of her Son lays in the tomb and his soul has descended to the dead to announce liberation from the shadow of darkness to his ancestors, the Blessed Virgin Mary, foreshadowing and representing the Church, awaits, in faith, the victorious triumph of her Son over death." — here

Easter Sunday

here

Sunday 23rd.March 2008

Haec dies quam fecit Dominus: “This is the day which the Lord has made.” Throughout the octave we shall sing of the unequalled joy which throws open eternity to us. Every Sunday will furnish a reminder of it, and from Sunday to Sunday, from year to year, the Easters of this earth will lead us to that blessed day on which Christ has promised that He will come again with glory to take us with Him into the kingdom of His Father.
