Daily Prayer

I am new to the Catholic Faith and I begin the RCIA classes this fall. I wanted recommendations on daily prayers or passages of scripture that I could use to start the day in a peaceful and godly way. The more people I tell that I am doing this seem to think I am nuts. I just want to keep focused on god as the journey that I am on.
 
The Rosary, Liturgy of the Hours, the Daily Readings.

I also use my Magnificat and the little booklet Living Faith, which has meditations on the daily readings on it.

And most days I say a prayer to St. Anthony because I lose my keys almost every morning!😃 :o 😃
 
Personally I like to pray the Rosary and St. Patrick’s Prayer in the morning, and the prayer to St. Lawrence and St. Michael the Archangel at night.

I highly recommend praying daily…very helpful, esp. when your having rough days.

Yes, definitely the St. Michael prayer at night.

Oh I also do the St. Michael Chaplet w/ Mother Angelica every morning! Its on at 6:00 am CST on EWTN 👍

My morning prayer routine goes like this…the one that starts 'em all off is-
Oh my God, in union with the Immaculate Heart of Mary, I offer thee the precious Blood of Jesus from all of the altars throughout the world, together with my every thought, word and action of this day. Oh my Jesus, I desire today to gain every indulgence and merit that I can, and I offer them, together with myself, to Mary Immaculate that she may best apply them to the interest of thy Most Sacred Heart. Precious Blood of Jesus, save us; Immaculate Heart of Mary, pray for us; Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, have mercy on us. Amen.
Then
Our Father…

Lord Jesus Christ, I acknowledge Thee King of the Universe. All that has been created has been made for thee. Exercise upon me all Thy sovereign rights. I renew my baptismal promises renouncing Satan and all his works and pomps. I promise to lead a good Christian life and to do all in my power to procure the triumph of the rights of God and Thy Church. Sacred Heart of Jesus, I offer Thee my poor actions in order to obtain that all hearts may acknowledge Thy sacred royalty and that thus the reign of Thy peace may be established throughout the universe. Amen.

Come Holy Spirit…

Then I proceed with the daily prayers of the Militia of the Immaculata (see consecration.com/) . Then I go through all my “special” saints and ask for their prayers and interecessions…

Then for the pope, I offer an Our Father, Hail Mary, and Glory be…

Then for three bishops in particular (I feel connnected to three in particular in my geographic location) and all bishops in general, I offer an Our Father, Hail Mary, and Glory Be…

Then I wrap it up with the prayer to St. Michael…

This routine just sort of evolved over time…and still is little by little. Looking it over right now like this - I see a need to add in a special prayer for the souls in Purgatory!

I pray the Rosary on my lunch break at work. I usually go out to my car for quiet and privacy, and by the time I’m done I feel so much more relaxed and peaceful.

I would also recommend the daily mass readings, or if you can, go to daily mass. Ours is only 30 minutes long and it’s a wonderful way to start (or end) your day. And the entire liturgy can be considered a prayer.

I’m lucky enough to be able to have flexible schedule so the easiest thing I have found to do is go to Daily Rosary and Daily Mass at my local parish. It’s 5 minutes away and that hour in the morning gets my day off to the best start.

That may not be practical for some people, but if you can buy a Daily Missal (which is what I use at Daily Mass) you have the Daily Readings right there, scripture readings for every day of the week. You will find that they complement the Sunday Readings you are studying in RCIA.

There are some excellent suggestions above. I myself pray the Morning and Evening Prayers in the 1962 Roman Catholic Daily Missal (Angelus Press), the Memorare, and the Rosary. Those prayers are excellent starting-off points for more personalized reflection and petition. I also direct my prayers through The Immaculate Heart of Mary and through my patron, St. Jude Thaddeus.

if you have 30 minutes to pray before the RCIA classes, pray 5 of the mysteries of the Rosary. You have here a link to a site that tells you how to pray it:
