Hi all,
I came into the Catholic Church through a Byzantine rite parish near where I went to school. I was captivated by the Byzantine Rite and miss it deeply (I am now only able to attend twice or three times a year). I now attend an Extraordinary Form parish run by the Oratorians. This was an easier move than you might think; the traditionalism of the Byzantines prepared me for the traditionalism of the EF, and this has been my home for five years now. I learned to pray the rosary and the Divine Office. Still, I find that the times when I found daily prayer the easiest, and when I found the most solace in daily prayer, was when I prayed in the Byzantine fashion. I find myself wanting to give up the Divine Office for my old Jordanville prayer book.
So my question is this: what do we all think about saying one’s daily prayers in a liturgical tradition that is different from the one in which one assists at mass?
