This question is directed mainly to the fathers, what is your daily routine like in terms of prayer on your own and with your family?

Well, I usually do a Morning Offering and prayer for the intentions of the Holy Father in the morning, plus an invocation to the saint of the day if there is one. Then, at night, I say the Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory Be, Angel of God, and At Night prayer. On the weekends, I also pray the Angelus in the morning.

Typically I will do the morning office by myself, or a morning offering depending on the amount of time I have. I have 3 young kids, the oldest is 5 and my wife works an evening shift so it’s pretty hard to get her out of bed early in the a.m. to pray with me

We do a prayer of thanks before every meal we share. I usually pick one of the kids to lead.

At night I pray with the kids an Our Father, Hail Mary, and a Glory Be plus a little blessing over them praying for the angels to watch over them (the girls like this a lot), then they tell God thank you for something from that day.

I would like to start incorporating my oldest in my morning prayer routine, but I will probably start off slowly, like a quick offering.

Since we moved into the Catholic Church, we use prayers out of a little prayer book that I bought at a local Catholic Bookstore and some from an old prayer book that belonged to my grandfather.

I offer a short morning prayer before getting out of bed, trying to follow the advice of St. Jose Maria Escriva (I usually fail at this):

The heroic minute. It is the time fixed for getting up. Without hesitation: a supernatural reflection and… up! The heroic minute: here you have a mortification that strengthens your will and does no harm to your body. It’s so discouraging to find oneself beaten at the first skirmish (The Way).

Then I bless my eldest before he heads off to Kindergarten with a short prayer and some Holy Water.

Then I try to prayerfully read the Gospel asking Christ to open my heart to His word for me that day. (I usually fail at this too).

I say grace with the family at dinner.

I pray with my sons before bed. An Ave Maria then we each offer a short extemporaneous prayer. I conclude by asking God to have mercy on our souls and see us into Eternal Life. Then a blessing with Holy Water. Sometimes the St. Michael Prayer.

Next, I pray with my wife. Another Ave, short extemporaneous prayer, Requiem Aeternam, Pater Noster

Lastly, I say a very short prayer before I go to sleep.

That’s my basic routine.
