Does your family pray a daily rosary together and/or do some other daily devotion? If so, do you have a scheduled time of day for it? When? Thanks and God bless you! 🙂

We only occasionally pray the Rosary together, but we do say the “Our Father” and “Hail Mary” every night together before the kids go to bed. I am going to start praying the Rosary with the kids everyday, I’m just not sure when it will be during the day, (bedtime, afternoon, etc.)

I have said the Rosary with my gf’s family, but never with my family. Our prayer together basically is church (when we all go at the same time) and grace before dinner. Other than that, I cover my own prayer.

We do not pray the Rosary together, but my husband and I always pray before meals and say nightly prayers together.

We pray the rosary almost every day as a family. The time varies because of my husband’s work schedule. We pray the rosary on Sundays after morning mass and breakfast. We have some unusual schedules in our family, so it takes some work to keep praying the rosary everyday a priority. We usually pray the rosary in the mornings after breakfast if we are all together, but pray most weekdays in the evening after dinner. Sometimes on a longer trip, we pray the rosary in the car.

Thanks to those who have replied! I’m mostly curious because I am discerning marriage right now, and think that daily night prayer or a rosary can help a lot to keep the family united under Mary’s guidance. My family never prayed together growing up except for going to Sunday Mass, so I’d just like to get (name removed by moderator)ut from other families about it.
I think it would be nice during the intentions before the rosary to go around the room until everyone has added their intentions - that way the whole family knows and can pray for the things that are heavy on each member’s heart. Also, it can be a dialy reminder that the whole family is on the same side in the world (God’s side) and can put disagreements into perspective. All that aside from the graces a family can recieve from prayer.
Any (name removed by moderator)ut?

We pray the Rosary together once a week,my wife,my 3 year old daughter and myself.
As we expected my daughter is not entirely attentive, playing with her guardian angel doll, but I’m sure just being there as we pray, she is reaping great graces and benefits.

It is wonderful. My family never did, but I have prayed the Rosary with my gf’s family, and I thoroughly enjoy that. I feel that it has brought me closer to them and closer to God (more so than when I pray it alone nightly)

What beautiful traditions you have here! My dad and I say grace before dinner, but that’s the extent of it, I’m afraid. Religion is kind of a touchy subject in our house. I never saw my parents pray growing up and we never prayed as a family.

But when I have kids, I want to pray with them as a habit, because I think it’s a beautiful family tradition.

We have a million prayers before meals we say… we say the Rosary every Sunday as well and the Angeles at noon

I say my Rosary daily too!

We pray it together daily, as well as the Chaplet of Divine Mercy, we don’t have a set time, but when I was growing up we prayed the Rosary together after the evening meal (after the dishes were all finished and put away). Then everyone did their homework, or finished it up if they had started it earlier. I think its an excellent idea that you are planning to start that wonderful family tradition. Start now if you haven’t already. (We always take turns stating our intentions too.)

We say the rosary daily usually just before bedtime. On rare occasions I will pray it seperately from the rest of my family due to scheduling conflicts, etc. The rosary is said to be the the chain that binds Satan to hell. When the children were very young we would pray a decade of the rosary with them at night.

The problem of doing just before bedtime tired eyes become apparent. I believe we will be moving this prayer just after dinner while the children are more alert. We attempt to go to daily Mass in the morning, but if not starting the day off with the rosary is a great way to start the day.

We say the rosary once a week together but say daily prayers. We also go to Adoration once a week as a family.

Those are awesome bonding times for the family.

I used to pray the rosary every day, and the chaplet of Divine Mercy…

But due to time restraints, I make my daily chores and such prayers to God, and I cross myself before I go out to start the day, and when I comee home at the end of night, so I can always remind me that the presence of the Trinity is always with me.

We’ve got a bowl on the dinner table filled with rosaries and between clearing the table and actually getting started on dessert (if there IS dessert) and dishes, everyone chooses their rosaries, we have the obligitory “what intentions tonite?” discussion, then we say rosary together. Got started when my dad was in intensive care. He’s out now and back home and doing well, but the habit stuck. . .

We normally say the Rosary through the month of October, during Advent and Lent. I try to keep this tradition going. During other times, when we pray, we say a decade or recite the Divine Mercy Chaplet

We pray the rosary together nightly. My husband works most nights, so we try to do it before he leaves. On nights he doesn’t work, we do it right before bed (get the girls in their jammies and then do it.) Our girls are 4 and 2. The 4-year-old follows along pretty well.

It’s interesting. Only about 2 weeks into starting this, my husband and I went out for a “date night.” My sister watched the girls. I thought while we were out…“Oh, the girls might be upset not to pray the rosary.”

How pleased I was to come home and my sister says, "Well, we prayed the rosary tonight. The 4-year-old said, “Aunt C, it’s time to pray the rosary.” Then the 2-year-old chimed in, “Rosary! Rosary!” my sister said…“I don’t argue when kids want to pray…not that I would anyway.”

I was in tears when she told me that. It’s truly been a blessing to our family.

That´s so cool 👍

What a beautiful idea!

I am part of that generation that was not exposed to the Rosary–we were not taught it at Catholic elementary school (that I remember) and certainly not at CCD. Only my grandmother prayed the Rosary, and then, by herself at Mass, as I recall. I have prayed it with a group, only twice, in the last 20 years–once at a funeral and once with a Catholic women’s group. So I really am shaky on anything but the basics. (For example, I understand the 10 Hail Marys, Glory Be, and Our Father but I don’t know about the Joyful Mysteries and Sorrowful Mysteries.) I do have pamphlets but it sort of takes away from the prayer to be mechanically checking the pamphlet as I go along…

So how long does it take to say a Rosary? Fifteen minutes or a half-hour? Any advice on learning the Rosary?

Thanks for the thread. It is inspirational. I feel called to make the Rosary and daily Mass part of my daily routine. Unfortunately, it is hard to fit daily Mass in with my family obligations at this tiime. The Rosary, though, I should be able to find time for. If only I felt comfortable with it!

I completely understand what you mean about feeling mechanical about praying the rosary the first few times. I only started praying it more within the last year. At first you have to check a number of times to make sure you’re praying the right mysteries for the day, and then try to remember which mystery comes next etc. I would recommend trying to memorize the mysteries apart from actually praying the rosary. That way you can memorize the order more quickly and not be intimidated by the prayer for as long a period of time. Also, don’t be afraid to go through the mechanics of praying along with a sheet. God will bless your efforts, and soon you’ll be praying it no problem. I found that it was easier to remember the order of things after praying a few scriptural rosaries. a scriptural rosary is one where you actually read the relevant Bible passages along with the mysteries you are praying.

Here is a website from newadvent.org with a really easy to follow rosary guide:
newadvent.org/library/rosary.pdf

This is a webiste with an example of a scriptural rosary:
presentationministries.com/brochures/ScripturalRosary.asp
You can just read the Bible verse and meditate on it for a moment before praying each Hail Mary.

Finally, if you feel like you’d like some extra help, the rosary is prayed many times daily on EWTN: 7:30 AM, 11:30 AM, 3:30 PM, and 11:30 PM Eastern time. If you don’t get EWTN on TV, you can watch/listen to it live on EWTN.com .

I hope this helps! It never hurts to ask God to strengthen your devotion to the rosary.

God bless you.
