Damaging of a field. Sin? If so, mortal?

I was playing cricket with some people at the field of the church down my block. It was a bit soggy out, and we got the place really muddy and probably destroyed some grass (although it is mostly weed).

It hit me about halfway through that it could be a sin; maybe even mortal. I continued to play, however. After all, it was my equipment and it would be hard to tell everyone that I’d be going back home and take the bats, stumps, ball, etc. with me. I really didn’t see a way to stop.

Did I commit a sin (mortal?) by continuing to play and, thus, wreck the field further, even though I had a nagging feeling that it was probably a sin?

Maybe after things dry out you could go back with some of your friends and see if the Church could use a little help with the field. If it was mostly weeds then a little raking might be all it needs. Mortal sin? I sincerely doubt it. I would mention it in confession but I wouldn’t think that you severed your relationship with God over this. Next time use better foresight and refrain from damaging property. God bless… teachccd
