If someone says “Damn you”, not using God’s name, I realize it is still an awful thing. Some use the term loosely, and don’t realize its grave meaning. I understand its meaning is that you wish someone will be condemned to hell. Which, of course, is not our ability or call. How grave a sin is this, however? How grave a sin, if the one who said it did so while fully knowing what the words mean, yet said it out of extreme anger and now knows they didn’t truly mean it. I realize the one who said this would need to apologize to the person, but was it a mortal sin which would require confession to a priest?
