Hi everyone,

I moved back in with my mom some months ago. She’s into esoteric christianity which combines christianity with a lot of eastern religious stuff and with new age.

When i was young she was already into this. I felt very depressed as a teen and also had strange health problems; the bone structure in my face did not grow symmetrical. I always had the feeling it had something to do with her ‘spiritual’ practises and was glad when i went to college and move out. After that i felt way better and also became catholic which i wasnt before.

Due to circumstances i moved back in again and again i’m starting to feel very strange. Again i have the feeling that the bones on the left side of my skull are getting thicker. What i would like to ask you is if you think her practises can influence me, that it attracts demons. And if so why and how could they attack me while i am not doing these things myself. And also are demons really capable to attack so physical that they can change the way your bones grow? Or is this just my own mind playing tricks? Thank you in advance, i do know that my question may be strange.

Anything to do with New Age is dangerous … that’s all I can say … can’t say that it can cause you illness … but I wouldn’t be around anything or anyone having to do with New Age … my sister started down that path 15 years ago … she changed dramatically as a person … and I moved away from her.

If you are fearful about it, you should probably talk to a priest about it. I'm sure he'd have a lot of wisdom to share and give you anything you'd need to know to protect yourself if in case you are somehow effected.

Be very, very wary of New Age. It involves, and is tied in with a lot of stuff, that most now understand, from a Catholic perspective, to be dangerous to one’s well-being, and it can negatively affect others, also. I think that unless she is willing to stop practicing New Age, it would be unwise to be around someone participating in such activities. A poster suggested finding a priest, and you could further that by finding out if he is an exorcist priest. I don’t like the sound of what you have told me because I understand that this stuff is really not a massive distance from witchcraft and satanism. And yes, one can get ill from demons. Whether or not they could make your bones change shape, who knows. IMHO, definitely seek advice. You will need to pray much too.

Good for you that you can recognize these dangers. If they are affecting you, do go talk to a priest about it. Surround yourself with sacramentals (holy water, blessed St. Benedict medal, and so on). Try to figure out a way to afford your own residence again as soon as possible and pray for your mother to recognize the need to discard the bad “Christianity” religion and come to the True Faith. Also if she has any mental illness that may have led her to be attracted to this sect, pray that she will find healing and help for that. Sometimes the devil lures vulnerable people to his lies.

God bless and deliver you both from this darkness. :gopray:

New Age has a lot to do with witchcraft … I know because I lost my sister to it.

Everyone, thank you for your kind help and answers.

What I would like to add is that yes indeed, i do know that some forms of new age involve witchcraft. However, I do not believe she is into that, because she does read books with titles as ‘Jesus is my friend’ which I don’t think can be written by people with bad intentions. She also does pray the Our Father. The problem is that she does combine it with chakra meditation and beliefs in reincarnation. What hurts me is that she does want to follow Jesus and I have the feeling she does love Him but because she reads such strange views on Jesus I do not know whether God actually listens to these prayers or if she opens op herself to evil stuff. I also cannot know for sure if my state is caused by this or that I would have felt it anyway and that I’m only projecting it on her activities.

You say “some forms”…but who is to know what forms do and what are neutral…what forms cross over, dangerously.

There are many books with the name ‘Jesus’, which are written by people with pretty weird ideas, or books that contain mostly truth in them, yet with a really important 1% lie in them, hard to spot, which can throw all other understanding into eventual disarray.
She also does pray the Our Father. The problem is that she does combine it with chakra meditation and beliefs in reincarnation.
These mediations are not in sync. Maybe the very inspiration behind you questioning this difficult situation on a forum, came from her ‘Our Father’, that she might eventually receive some help.

Overall, with all due respect, it sounds as if you don’t know too much about her situation, in definite terms. From reading advice on another page, concerning a different topic, when thinking how to respond to this post (and praying about it), I read how it is possible to ask questions, instead of being like: “My position is this and you shouldn’t do that” - a bit harsh, especially if she is obviously trying to reach God (which actually sounds as if the situation requires great compassion and sensitivity). I’m not saying I think you’d be like that, btw, but just giving an example.
I also cannot know for sure if my state is caused by this or that I would have felt it anyway and that I’m only projecting it on her activities.
Previous posts apply here. Maybe look after your own spirituality by getting help while getting a little more info. gently from your mum so you know where you are.

Hope it works out in the end for you.

I am very sorry to hear of your sad news. :sad_yes:

New Age introduces a downward spiral, in little - often tempting - steps, pulling everything apart in dangerously subtle stages, yet there are elements that can do damage that puts the victim/s in imminent danger - the devil being able to ‘appear as an angel of light’, comes to mind.
