“Happiness is the meaning and the purpose of life: the whole aim and end of human existence.”

This seems to be the Modern philosophy of today which leads people to following there passions which is dangerous !

Well, if you believe that true happiness can only be found in God, then in a sense this statement is true.

When the meaning of Happiness goes for: drugs, sex, money, alcohol - then it’s really dangerous.

Therefore, the devil constantly manipulates people to show that materialistic happiness is the true and only happiness.

Aristotle goes a little deeper than perhaps that which you are implying:

‘The function of man is to live a certain kind of life, and this activity implies a rational principle, and the function of a good man is the good and noble performance of these, and if any action is well performed it is performed in accord with the appropriate excellence: if this is the case, then happiness turns out to be an activity of the soul in accordance with virtue.’

Read more about him.

So happiness is carrying out virtue to him?
It’s being virtuous. Living honestly with honour. Improving oneself. He might suggest reading something like the Nichomean Ethics as opposed to watching a re-run of Friends or shopping for a new iphone. Bit tougher but you’ll get more satisfaction.

As John Stuart Mill said:

“It is better to be a human being dissatisfied than a pig satisfied; better to be Socrates dissatisfied than a fool satisfied. And if the fool, or the pig, are of a different opinion, it is because they only know their own side of the question. The other party to the comparison knows both sides”

The more knowledgeable you are, the more cboices you have. But the more you realise what you don’t know. But that is better than being a fool who goes tbrough life happily knowing nothing.

I agree with attaining more knowledge I’m lacking a good library of ancient works.

Makes me wonder what they actually teach in schools any more!

Do you know when I did not believe in God I asked many questions on how to be the best person possible even if God does not exist I was led to virtues you not what people have the most virtues the Jewish people who study the 48 virtues of the Torah then I realized that Jesus fulfilled this as the perfect man

I would argue that this is the source of the theological virtues of Hope and Faith, because “Happiness” or “Happy is”, is a translation of “Blessed be”…so attaining the Beatific Vision (i.e. Happiness) is, indeed, the meaning and purpose of life for man as intended by God!

Rejoice in the Lord Always!
