I was reading this vision of Daniel’s vs. 31 - 45 and its obvious to me that the rock cut from a mountain not made by human hands that destroys that last kingdom which is represented by the feet and toes of partly baked clay and iron. Which it states is a divided kingdom, which everyone agrees was the roman empire. And after their end the rock replaces is it. To me this is an obvious prediction of Peter the rock (Christs church) who comes into power. Even works out in the historical time line i.e. fall of divided Rome rise of church. Anyway all the commentaries ive found on the internet agree the rock was the church. Usually they say it was Jesus Christ. I have however found any that say Peter was the (rock) cut from the mountain not made by human hands. Am I right? I figure ive just been reading protestant commentaries thats why that connection hasnt’ been made. I cant find any catholic commentary on this. Or then agin maybe im wrong to assume the rock Daniel was talking about was Peter. Can u help me out???

St. Jerome, who is very reliable said this
However, at the final period of all these empires of gold and silver and bronze and iron, a rock (namely, the Lord and Savior) was cut off without hands, that is, without copulation or human seed and by birth from a virgin’s womb; and after all the empires had been crushed, He became a great mountain and filled the whole earth.
St. Augustine interprets the mountain to be the Church and Christ the rock cut out.

Well, the Church is the Body of Christ. And St. Peter is the Rock that our Lord built His Church on (along with the other apostles and prophets). So, while Peter is not the rock made “not by human hands”, he is a major part of the foundation of the “great mountain” - the Kingdom of Christ. And, yes, the Catholic Church is the Kingdom of Christ that God set up during the time of the forth beastly kingdom - the Roman Empire, which was later conquered by the Church and renamed the Holy Roman Empire. Oh Daniel - what a prophet!

Since the Temple was supposed to be made out of rock not cut by human hands, this image works lots of different ways.
