Now I’m seriously thinking about buying that book (Divine Mercy in my Soul)

If you ever want to buy a Catholic book…one that I really recommend is Story of a Soul by St Therese of Lisieux, it’s just her autobiography but it really helped everyone I know who read it… (myself included). And it’s pretty short too. I recommend that book to anyone lol. There’s also “Practice of the Love of Jesus Christ” by St Liguori, which just has some really good teaching about what it means to love God based on 1 Cor. 13.

I just realized that I know so little about God and have yet a long way to trek in my pursuit of trying to get to know Him.

me tooo!! actually I had the same reaction when I started reading the Saints, - before I always confused emotion for love of God, and wondered if He’s far from me when I couldn’t feel His presence… I don’t know what your experience has been like, but the approach they present is not centered around feelings but simple obedience.
As for knowing God, I feel like I know little about God too, I guess it’s a real lifetime of getting to know Him… lol! In my Protestant days, I went to some revivals etc with the hope of finding Him there… but what’s worked much better for me is just going to Eucharistic Adoration and doing Catholic devotions… (like the Sacred Heart devotion).

And now, at least I have an idea what to pray/say to God with regards to my own problems, how to come to Him. I’ve so many things to learn from your posts. I’m eternally grateful. Thank you so much!!

aw no prob, hugs I’m glad those posts helped… just come to Him with trust, try to open your heart to Him every time you receive the Eucharist, ask Mary and the Saints to pray for you… the Church offers us some good ways to approach God; they’re time-tested ways that the Saints used as well and they’re grounded in Scripture and Tradition. can’t go wrong with the approved Church teachings. That is what keeps us safe from misinterpreting Scripture and going in the wrong direction. If we stay devoted to the Church, Our Lady, the Sacraments, we’ll have the strength to live the Christian life and we won’t fall into heresies. Just take your time and learn and pray and everything will be alright I found I had to re-learn some things when I decided to be Catholic and I’m still on that journey, but God really leads us if we sincerely ask Him to.

Hi girl,

There is no answer anyone can give that will solve your problems. The bottom line is there are things you need to do to get relief from this spiritual oppression you’re experiencing.

One of them is a willingness to confront and deal with sin - and it sounds like you’re are willing to do that. If you need a good examination of conscience - here’s one:

In post #2 I gave a link to steps you can follow that could bring you out of the spiritual funk you’re in. I hope you’ll give them a try; those steps have changed lives, including mine.

return to Mass and the sacraments
pray every day
read the bible every day, starting with the day’s Mass readings and pray with them, spend time in meditation after your reading, just listening and resting with the Word
take up your cross daily–do the duties of the day cheerfully, to the best of your ability, without grumbling or complaining, and without being asked

never let an opportunity pass to say a kind word or do a kind action for someone else
obey the commandments and live the beatitudes
when physical or other limitations prevent you from doing the good works you would like to do, offer up the limitation to God in union with Christ’s limitation on the cross

review the day before bed, ask for guidance from the Holy Spirit, review the events of the day, give thanks for all that happened, express sorrow and contrition, make a resolution for tomorrow, say the Our Father, and sleep in peace.

don’t climb the mountain looking for enlightenment.

you were given great examples of souls who coped with what you are facing, yet you still say “Hey guys I am still waiting for guidance.” when God does send help your way, listen, discern, and heed.

one last tip that never fails
when you find yourself unable to pray for yourself, pray for someone else
when you find yourself unable to help yourself, help someone else.
