I’m sure most of you are familiar with St. John of the Cross, and his commentary on his poem, Dark Night of the Soul. It has helped me immensely to put things in perspective when I’ve found myself foundering spiritually. For those who are not familiar with it yet, I wanted to share it here. When you feel like an open-wound, when you feel like you’ll never find Him the way you want to, when it feels like your whole prayer life is futile; his work may give you solace.

aanto88,

I’ve read all of the works of St. John of the Cross and the Dark Night of the Soul is my favorite. He really knows how to express what a soul undergoes when facing passive purification. Thanks for sharing.

“The Ascent of Mount Carmel” is similarly a commentary on that poem. “The Spiritual Canticle” is also of great value. This man truly went beyond the confines of carnal understanding and worldly passions. Praise God for St. John of the Cross! 🙂
