Darkness for three days?

I remember when Mount St. Helen’s exploded years ago. There was ash as far away as Canada, dusting the streets and darkening the sky. Witnesses to the destruction of Pompeii by Mt. Vesuvius thought the world was ending, even in Rome, 120 miles away. Now imagine if one of the Earth’s super volcanoes blows up. An eruption at Yellowstone would send ash spewing 500 miles, covering most of Western North America, and ushering in a volcanic winter.

Bottom line, though, it’s not how you die, but how you’ve lived and where you’ll go for eternity.
 
At least if we had such a volcanic explosion today, the news would report it and people would know that’s what was going on. A couple hundred years ago some volcano in some place far from Europe blew and rained ash on Europe, ruined their crops and their weather and blocked out the sunlight for a couple of seasons, and the folks in Europe didn’t have any idea where this had come from and likely blamed it onto God.
 
Three days? We are living in the era of darkness. Rather, I like to watch the clouds for signs of the Son of Man returning. We are then not to fear, cower or hide, but stand and raise our heads because our salvation is arriving.
Luke 21:27-29 "And then they will see the Son of man coming in a cloud with power and great glory. Now when these things begin to take place, look up and raise your heads, because your redemption is drawing near.”

In today’s world it will not matter. The mayor will just turn the city lights on and the political leaders will announce us that even though it’s a bit dark outside it doesn’t mean it’s a national holiday. Your boss or manager will message you to make sure you come to work because the deadline is close. Your atheist friends will send you werewolves and devils to mock your fear, the DJ on your favorite radio will say all the jokes about aliens he/she knows, the bank will also send you a text message about your debt.
I imagine that in today’s world we will also light up the sky with our cellphones. Not even the devil dancing in the sky on fire will be anything more than a picture on instagram with a title “if you believe in such things”.
Celebrities will post silly jokes on twitter so the next day the media can repost all that they said as “news”.
ISIS will announce they have stolen the sun and the moon and if we want it back we should release x and y of their members or something else.
North Korea will say it is their new secret weapon and first it was the moon, next is USA.
Juncker will say it doesn’t matter if there are no stars in the sky because the circle of EU’s flag is a circle of endless light, aren’t you all happy by being part of it especially now?
NASA will say it’s an optical illusion that happens every x hundred years.

Now I am really depressed. But I still believe the world is too infatuated with herself to not use anything unusual as an energy to just keep on … turning.
 
I would say, from what I’ve heard, that the three days of darkness is actually more like three days of light…because fire is supposed to come from the sky…but those in a state of grace will not be touched. No lighting will work except for blessed candles.
 
Here it says the candles must be of pure wax (no paraffin).


I personally only believe in 3 days of darkness or unusual events to announce God’s coming back and Final Judgement. Not as a prior cleansing before it. I have doubt that a candle of wax can be more important than a spiritual endeavor like praying.
But even my view is contradicted by Jesus’s own words - without notice the Judge will come back.
 
It’s private revelation. We as Catholics are not required to believe it. Nor are we forbidden to believe.

“Not approved by the Church” is not the same thing as “condemned by the Church”. Mother Church is not going to say of any private revelation “You must believe this”.
Condemnation is possible but we mustn’t assume that a report has been condemned just because the Church hasn’t spoken in favor of it.
 
Blessed Elizabeth Canori Mora spoke of the three days of darkness and her writings (correct me if I’m mistaken) have been approved.

It says,
Blessed Elizabeth Canori Mora was born in 1774 and lived in Italy until her saintly death in 1825. Thanks to her confessor, her revelations were preserved in hundreds of pages of her own writings.
Today, the Trinitarian Fathers at San Carlino, Rome hold her manuscripts for safekeeping in their archives.
These writings were meticulously examined at length as a safeguard against doctrinal errors when Pope Blessed Pius IX authorized Elizabeth Canori Mora’s cause for canonization to proceed.
The ecclesiastical censor commissioned by the Holy See released his official judgment on November 5, 1900. It stated “there is nothing against faith and good customs, and no doctrinal innovation or deviation was found.”
Elizabeth Canori Mora was beatified in 1994.

Edited to add: Blessed Anna Maria Taigi’s messages are also approved and she also mentions the three days of darkness.
