PBXVI also said thisMy bottom three signatures are the Pope’s quotes:
there is a great deal of scientific proof in favor of evolution, which appears as a reality which we must see and that enriches our knowledge of life and of being as such. (Pope Benedict 7/24/2007)
other popes have talked about evolution
The teaching authority of the Church does not forbid that, in conformity with the present state of the human sciences and sacred theology, research and discussions, on the part of men experienced in both fields, take place with regard to the doctrine of evolution, insofar as it inquires into the origin of the human body as coming from pre-existent and living matter, for the Catholic Faith obliges us to hold that souls are immediately created by God. puis XII
There are no difficulties in explaining the origin of man in regard to the body by means of the theory of evolution According to the hypothesis mentioned it is possible that the human body, following the order impressed by the creator on the energies of life, could have gradually been prepared in the form of antecedent living beings.
Evolution and the catholic faith are not in conflict. As long as you hold God is the mind behind evolution it is in line with Catholic teaching.
When I look at science and when I look at the theory of evolution, it seems obvious to me that man has evolved into what he is now. God just at one point in human history took an adam and an eve and gave them souls. (only two) They were given the supernatural grace of immortality but then they sinned losing that grace, and all their decedents had sin. Just like the Church teaches.
BTW many theologians hold the view that evolution is correct. Out of the many theologians I know at two seminaries one is a young earth creationist (i’ll keep him nameless) and the rest are evolutionist who believe God created the world.
