That list comes from the anti-Catholic bible --Loraine Boettner’s ridiculously inaccurate ROMAN CATHOLICISM. Some place around these forums there is a link to a complete and total refutation of every single point on this querulous and wholly frivolous list. Protestants are embarrassed by it.

Even where Boettner cites “facts” he gets the dates wrong (e.g., the Council of Ephesus).

How about reading the Catechism of the Catholic Churchif you want to know the TRUTH about what the Catholic Church teaches. You’ll like it!

Woah. That wasn’t actually a declaration. I see how this list is completely distorted view of Catholicism. I think you fail to realized, a Catholic is free to believe in the evolution or not.

I know my sister who are devote Catholics does not believe in the theory fo evolution. I on the other hand, think that there are some truths in evolution but I don’t believe that the theory itself is truthful. I have some doubts of it.

I came into this conclusion because there has been recent discoveries that so called “ancestors” of a species of animals fossil was found along side their successors. For example, there was recent discover that a homo-sapien bone was found with another homo-erectus (My memory is vague on this but it was suppose to be one of our cousins…)

These recent discovers cast some doubts in me about the theory of evolution. There also ancestors of dinosaurs found along side dinosaurs… I do think there are some partial truths of evolution…but we can’t be sure that we can take it at face value.

It’s similar to Boettner’s list,as given in the 1962 edition of his silly book, but not identical. Boettner gets the IC date correct, for example. A corruption of it, no doubt. These things get passed around, by folks who don’t read books, and the contents drift.

I heard someone the other day say: The enemies of the Church are insolent, and the faithful are gullible.

It gets old but we must never cease to combat poisonous nonsense like this.

And I noticed, after posting, that I wasn’t the first to call Boettner’s book “silly”. Odd, in that his works on reformed subjects are well regarded. His ROMAN CATHOLICISM is widely regarded as a joke.

Wow! Those are a lot of dates! How about adding one: September 11, 1683 -Battle of Vienna, where the Muslims were finally defeated from overtaking Europe. Where is Vienna? Austria, do ya think?
 
He got his date wrong for Prayer of the Dead. It’s been practice since the days of Judas Maccabbees…

That list is based on Boettner,but it includes entries, & makes mistakes, that he did not.​

He got the date of the Council of Ephesus right, & that of Nicea II wrong - this list is just a version of his own: which includes 45 entries. The mistakes leave no room for doubt that it is based on his book at second hand, or even more distantly.

I think it’s rather unfair of other Protestants to muck around with his list, because their blunders give the impression that his work was even more mistaken than it is. His own list was was based directly or indirectly on a list in a French Calvinist book by a Pastor N. A. F. Puaux, which was published in 1846 as “L’Anatomie de Papisme” & eventually as “Anatomy of Popery”. As for Puaux’s sources - 🤷 🙂

This obviously came from where Catholicism isn’t well received or understood. Probably a strong Evangellic and/or fundamentalistic background. The 787AD entry of approval to worship icons and statues is a good example of many of these folks’ actual thoughts of the Catholic church and other churches which contain icons and statues.

Actually, Christians have used icons and statues long before 787 AD.

Aside from the legend that Pilate had made an image of Christ, the fourth-century Eusebius of Caesarea, in his Church History, provides a more substantial reference to a “first” icon of Jesus. He relates that King Abgar of Edessa sent a letter to Jesus at Jerusalem, asking Jesus to come and heal him of an illness. In this version there is no image. Then, in the later account found in the Syriac Doctrine of Addai, a painted image of Jesus is mentioned in the story; and even later, in the account given by Evagrius, the painted image is transformed into an image that miraculously appeared on a towel when Christ pressed the cloth to his wet face.

The list is completely not accurate. It has errors. I find the last list completely erroneous and misleading.

This list is so inaccurate that it is beyond correction.
 
It is typical of those sects that wish to label Catholics as either pagan or satanic. Not surprising.
