Dating/Courtship ideas

Double-dating is a good idea not only for preventing temptation, but also for taking the pressure off to carry on the entertaining conversation. While dating back in college, my dad was so quiet that my mom would have to rack her brains for a list of conversation topics before going out on a date with him.

I heard of an Orthodox Jewish tradition in which, instead of a honeymoon, a newly-married couple has dinner every night for a week with different older married couples who give the newlyweds their insights into how to have a long and successful married life. Besides getting those valuable insights, it shows the newlyweds that the community has a vested interest in the success or failure of their marriage. No couple is an island… Could this be adapted to still unmarried courting couples? Invite older married couples out to get the benefit of their wisdom and experience? Find older relatives? Find older married couples at church?

So I just got from having dinner with this girl. She is very nice yet strange too. We both don’t talk a whole lot so I felt a little bad because I didn’t say very much. Of course maybe that is what she likes in guy. 🤷 When it came time to pay for the bill I gently said I can cover my half. She said, ā€œno I will get it this time.ā€ So I figured I’d let her do so. I did get the tip though. It was nice/okay. She said she was tired due to lack of sleep; seemed kind of nervous. Again very different girl yet I find her quite attractive not just by looks but her smarts and other little things about her.

Dancing = Greatest date ever

I realized how I felt about my hopefully-soon-to-be-girl at a dance (my surprise 18th B-day party)

Okay, my toddler sister just whacked my keyboard so I have no idea if the half-written reply posted…

My BF and I have been courting/dating (we call it either) for 3 months, 1 at college and 2 at our respective homes (75 miles apart :(). Here’s some of the things we like to do:

-Holy Hours. Not a chatty kind of date but you can talk on the way there and back and there isn’t much better, in my opinion, than being able to spend time with my ā€œtwo favorite guysā€ (Jesus and my BF).

-On campus there was a coffeehouse once a week. Music, cheap smoothies–hard to beat.

-Walks. It’s a good way to de-stress and if you don’t want to talk there isn’t the pressure of sitting there looking at each other. I’m noticing a theme with the not-talking–I guess neither of us is very talkative, though we manage okay during phone calls. šŸ™‚

-Calvin and Hobbes. For those of you who don’t know, this is a comic strip. My BF owns almost every book there is of C&H. We like to sit together and read them. I know, we are certified geeks but if that’s the sort of thing you enjoy then go for it.

-Since summer started, we’ve been spending time with each other’s families, having dinner and such. This is a really great way to get to know the person ā€œin contextā€, if you will. Plus my BF has 4 younger siblings who keep the conversation going, let me tell you.

That’s easily the greatest comic strip EVER!! I’ve got the entire collection! I’m going to take this advice and try this sort of thing when I get a GFā€¦šŸ˜ƒ
Thank you!
