If a guy came along claiming that he can calculate the appearance of homo sapiens 200 Ka (tousend years ago), the neanderthals 500 Ka, the first life 3.5 Ga (billion years ago), the formation of the earth 4.5 Ga, of the milky way 8 Ga, the big bang 13.7 Ga and a lot of other scientifical dates simply out of the patriarch’s genealogies in Genesis 5-11, what would you answer him? Would you even take the time and investigate his claims?

Well, I would probably dismiss it beforehand as that seems to be a case of over-interpreting Sacred Scripture to fit the scientific data.

I understand. Well, I give you a first date and then tell me if this is overinterpreted: the patriarchs have long ages, over 900 years up to Noah. You will probably agree with me that these ages must not be interpreted literally. They may indicate a whole succession of generations. So why not simply sum them up? This is not more complicated than summing the ages up when they fathered their sons, which yields a date about 4500 ya (years ago) for the Flood and 6170 ya for the birth of Adam. Let’s say this is Flood #1 and Adam #1.

From this date let’s now retreat in time by adding the whole ages from Adam to Abraham, who in this context is kind of a new Adam, precisely Adam #1. The other Flood and Adam in a more distant past are then Flood #2 and Adam #2. This yields 11’571 years for the sum of the ages. Adding it to 6170 ya we get about 17740 ya for Adam #2 and 9500 ya for Flood #2.

What have these dates to do with history? 17740 ya points to the last glacial maximum. From that point, the earth became hotter and the ice caps began to melt such that the sea level globally began to rise. 9500 ya points to the flooding of the upper part of the Persian Gulf, where the Euphrates, Tigris, Gihon and Phison merge (the two last rivers are dry now).

What do you think? Is this just a coincidence?
