Hi
So I’m 24 and I’ve never dated before, partly because I didn’t really even care to date or have any interest in dating until a couple of years ago, and also because I find the whole business very confusing.
I think maybe this is just something to do with my generation, I am not sure, but I think the main thing is, I can’t tell the difference between when a guy and a girl are just friends, and when a guy and a girl are dating. Aside from the hand holding, etc. I can’t see any substantial difference… the line between the two seems very vague. And I think that part of the reason I can’t tell the difference is that I’ve never been there before. I have female friends but I don’t really get close with them like I do with male friends, since, in my opinion, guys and girls bond differently, and I think if I became very close friends with someone of the opposite sex then I would probably start to like them.
The whole idea of dating, asking a girl on a date, etc. seems very unnatural to me and kind of scary. I’ve done it once before and she said yes but nothing came of it in the end; I sensed that I had perhaps asked too soon. I have been very attracted to specific female friends in the past but would often explain it away, for example, we’re not good enough friends yet, or we’re about to part ways in life, etc. I don’t know if all my rationalization was justified or was based on fear, etc.
I wonder if I’m just confused, clueless, or maybe I have nothing to worry about and am just overthinking things.
