Is it a sin to date someone in high school whom you have no intent of marrying? This is assuming that the two people do not have sex before marriage or do anything else that involves removing undergarments; doing so would of course be a mortal sin. I do know that friendship with other people is always a very good thing and is conducive to a fruitful walk with Christ, but would an element of romance make it inappropriate?

I don’t know about whether it would be considered a sin. But the way I see it, any romantic relationship should be undertaken with a potential view to marriage. So dating a person you couldn’t even consider becoming your future spouse seems unwise to me.

I have heard that it is, yes. Mainly because dating is itself a near occasion of sin and should not be entered into lightly or frivolously.

I guess the answer depends on why you want to date this person. Is it because he/she is popular and you want to be “in”? That’s pride. Is it because you’re already friends, you don’t have dates for the prom, but you both want to go? That’s innocent. I wouldn’t even consider that “dating”, that’s more like “hanging out with a friend.”

Dating should be looking towards marriage. In the younger days, it’s more about defining likes and dislikes. And as you narrow down your tastes, what sort of mate you want becomes clearer, and you start looking for that type of person. If you’ve already ruled out marriage to this person (It would be so much easier if we knew if you were male or female!) then you’re a)wasting time and b)possibly using this person for your own selfish ends.

It seems stupid and a pointless waste of time/energy. A relationship takes a lot of work to maintain. Why bother putting energy into a relationship that you have no intention of consumating? The couple aren’t having sex, so that’s not a motive.

This scenario doesn’t even make sense.

If you want to get to know what girls are like, what their needs are, how to please them, sure. That knowledge might help if you find yourself wanting to court someone more suitable to be a spouse later.

I think going on group dates to movies, a concert or out to eat might remove the temptation to become intimate. If you dont have many feelings for this person,it is best to let them know you value their friendship, but that you dont want to go any further.
