What the Bible reveals is that Jesus was all about bringing people to conversion.

If you want to go for supper with a homosexual couple, that’s fine - but don’t say, “I’m eating with sinners like Jesus did,” unless you are also converting them over supper like Jesus did, and seeing them publicly repenting of their sinful ways, by the end of the dessert course.

Are you being funny, are do you honestly believe this? Because if the Christians who befriended me, a person living in sin, to renounce my way of life and completly accept THEIR way of life in an hour or two… ??? Not a chance. It took a good year of many social encounters… many many conversations… many times of me flat out saying I thought they were crazy (when the Holy Spirit started working on me I REALLY dug my heels in!) and yet they patiently prayed for me, loved me, showed me by their good example that they had something I didn’t.

I feel like I’ve said all this already on this theard… so sorry to repeat myself. I guess what I’m sad about it that all of you good Catholics who wouldn’t dream of eating with the two Dads are going to miss all kinds of opportunities to possibly lead others to Christ. We aren’t street preachers who shout out REPENT to passerbys and expect that to be enough. If you don’t allow yourself to become friends with people who are different from you - people who have bought into society’s lies… if you live your whole life NEVER getting to know them I guarantee YOU will never have a positive impact on their lives. I’m not worried about the 2 Dads… there are enough of us who are willing to form relationships with people such as them… but how sad that YOU will never experience that joy - completly unmatched by anything else - of knowing YOU made a difference in someone’s life.

Those Christians who led me, a horrible person & sinner extrodinare to Christ changed not only MY life, but the lives of my 5 children as well. And their children, and their children’s children. I find myself thanking God that He put THEM in my life and not the likes of many of you. Do you blame me? Apparently YOU would’ve given up on me after a couple of hours?

You agreed that Jesus was all about leading people to conversion. How do you expect to do that if you won’t meet people where they are?

I go with my friends because I like them; not because I think I’m in a mission field, or that I’m so much obviously better than them that me hanging out with them is going to convert them - it won’t.

Like I said above, if you want to dine with sinners, go ahead. Just don’t use Jesus as your excuse, or think that you’re being like Jesus, if you aren’t actually trying to convert them to Him.

Exactly. It would be wrong of me to say that I “eat with sinners just like Jesus did” because I don’t. I eat with sinners just like a sinner does.

So do most of the “so tolerant” people in this thread, who also would just keep smiling and smiling during the dinner, and not being so rude as to point out anybody’s sins, but are so proud of themselves because they are keeping company with sinners, thinking that their “silent example” will do anything constructive - news flash; just being there doesn’t work - you have to point at them and display their sins in every detail, just like Jesus did. Which I would never have the courage to do, so yeah - ain’t happening.

Nicky - here is the point - WE ARE ALL SINNERS- and not one of us gets to hide behind behind any BIble verse that says our actions are 100% right in the end. That is why we go to a CELEBRATION of MASS and have EUCHARIST which will remove the VENIAL ones and we need to attend regular RECONCILIATION for the MORTAL ones. Does that about sum it up after all this bickering I think I need Reconciliation and Penance?

This was said extremely well. And it is very true. Like others here, I have family who are “sinners” but it is wrong of me to say that I eat with them to be like Jesus. Fact is, we all are too weak to really take the stands or the teaching we should. We are ignorant at times and weak and fearful at times. Putting our need to be liked by the people close to us above our need and duty to spread the Gospel and truely be a saint. Even Jesus noticed the famillial difficulties when returning to the town where he grew up. It is an area where most people cannot “take up thier cross” and follow him, or give all thier possesions and follow Him. Or let the dead bury the dead and follow Him. All those examples are similair to what we have here. A clinging to earthly things, (friends family money status) instead of Jesus. Recognizing this shortfall of almost everybody is more beneficial to the soul than the delusion of tolerance.

Nope. And nobody has video of the Red sea crossing, feeding of the 5000, crucifixion, resurection or the Last supper either… At what point do we just accept and believe the Word of God rather than bend it to our aurgument, doubt it and misuse it. There are sever part of the Bible that I don’t jive with, that seem odd to my sense of Holiness, but I am not God am I? Jesus ate with sinners Jesus called all to repent and sin no more. Jesus Died for us. Don’t diminnish His sacrifice and teaching by trying to insinuate that He was our version of “tollerant” or weak.
