My little girl is hearing voices, full on multiple voices with personalities, some good some really bad, some in between, they all have names. She is getting professional help but it isn’t working.

The voices stop when she is at church or the nearby abbey or praying the rosary, or singing hymns. The voices tell her to hurt me sometimes. She doesn’t remember hurting me. She’s too small to hurt me badly, knives etc are locked away and its the UK so no guns but still I’m at a point I’m locking knives away to keep me safe…

Calm places and calm music doesn’t work, I thought maybe it was the peace and tranquillity but it is only religious places and religious music, I mean its great something is helping but why only religious things? What do I do?

Continue getting her professional mental/medical health treatment. And speak to a priest for spiritual guidance and advice.

Thanks, medical help is ongoing, its not working but we are trying everything anyone professional can suggest. I can’t work out how to bring it up with a priest without sounding crazy though.

Have you talked to your parish priest? He should advise you on the next steps.

No, I haven’t, I don’t know why, I just can’t seem to make the words come out.

I do find this alarming. Have you considered the possibility of having an exorcist look at her? (I’m being serious, I wonder if this could be a case of demonic possession)

This is what is worrying me but then if she was possessed wouldn’t she avoid holy places? how do you even go about finding an exorcist?

There are degrees of demonic control or influence short of possession.

You said:

I think that’s a bad sign. You may be a target for influence to keep you from getting help for your child.
Pray. Pray much. Go to the priest, and if you have difficulty speaking, then pray for the freedom to speak.

how do you even go about finding an exorcist?
Contact your parish priest, tell him what is happening and you are concerned it may be a case of demonic possession. The Church will investigate the matter, and if they do deem it to be a case of demonic possession, the bishop will authorize the exorcist of the diocese to look at her.

Every diocese has its own exorcist, so do not worry! Your diocese does indeed have one!

I am going to keep up the professional medical help as well by the way, just its not working and maybe its not a medical issue, i don’t know. When the voices are quiet she is a beautiful child with such a beautiful heart.

By all means keep up the professional help, but I encourage you also to seek out the Church’s help too. Please don’t feel foolish or whatnot for seeking out help from the Church in this matter. This is one of the reasons why the Church is here.

For the time being, you might want to try the prayer below:

A Prayer to Saint Benedict for Protection

"Dear Saint Benedict, I thank God for showering you with His grace to love Him above all else and to establish a monastic rule that has helped so many of His children live full and holy lives.

Through the cross of Jesus Christ, I ask you to please intercede that God might protect me, my loved ones, my home, property, possessions, and workplace today and always by your holy blessing, that we may never be separated from Jesus, Mary, and the company of all the blessed. Through your intercession may we be delivered from temptation, spiritual oppression, physical ills, and disease. Protect us from drug and alcohol abuse, impurity and immorality, objectionable companions, and negative attitudes. In the mighty name of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, I fervently pray. Amen."

As far as I know, St Benedict medal is also very effective in warding off evil spirits. Try to find one and have it blest by a priest (preferably, a Benedictine Monk), then have your daughter wear it all time and recite the prayer above. Hopefully, you’ll see a great improvement in her current situation.

I’ll include you and your daughter in my prayer. God bless!!

Hello, I had this problem and was diagnosed with a mental illness. However, mine disappeared after 5 years. However, this problem can be overcome with medications and counseling.

I want to say that she does not want to hurt you, nor she wants to hurt anyone else.

Hearing voices is not an easy battle. I struggled for a number of years, was hospitalized, and was really, really ill. But mental health services and care from the Church really helped me.

My mom initially thought that I was possessed, but priests found no problem in me. Realizing this was a purely a problem in my brain, I started going for mental health services, and I’m feeling much, much better.

Please keep seeking mental health services. Your support can mean the world to her. I was rejected by my parents who thought that I was a shame to them. Please do not reject her for hearing voices, but please embrace her with your love. It’s not an easy thing to battle- I struggled for a number of years. But your support can mean the world to her.

Thank you. She will get better- I promise!

Also, we’ve got a forum for those hearing voices (mainly for those with schizophrenia, schizoaffective disorder, and bipolar disorder) - please message me for details!

Pax.

Write it all on a piece of paper first and then re-edit it until it sounds explanatory enough and no you don’t sound crazy and he won’t laugh at you. Don’t let anyone here influence you in believing your child is possessed or not. Talk to the priest. You are in my prayers, together with your daughter.

Exorcists require medical investigation before moving forward with any serious exorcising (there are lower levels which do not require that), so keeping up with the medical help is absolutely in line with what the Church wants.

Is your daughter old enough to go to Confession? This is a sacrifice which offers its own special graces, so is highly recommended in situations of demonic activity.

ST Dymphna is the patron saint of those who suffer from mental illness and St Padre Pio especially fought with demons, so those might be two saints to call upon in this time of trouble for your daughter.

Is your little girl baptized? If yes, teach her to pray like this, everytime she hears the voices:

“Go away! in the Name of Jesus The Christ !”
(It does not need to be loud, just a normal voice or whisper or even in her heart if she’s in class or in places where its awkward to be seen talking to herself, but always in assertive tone/ in the form of a command)

Everytime bless her before you leave her at school or anywhere. Bless her like this:

Let the blood of Jesus Christ covers you and protects you. Let only good things happen to you in The Name of Jesus, Amen.
(Make the sign of the cross+ with your thumb on her forehead as you bless her)

Before sleep and after wake up in the morning pray as a family and pray The Lords Prayer every morning even if you are in a hurry, pray one time The Lords Prayer and really mean it especially “keep us away from temptation and deliver us from evil” part.

Attend Sunday Mass regularly.

And Daily Mass too if you can.

You and your husband go for confessionals if a long time you guys have not gone for it.

If professional psychiatric help isn’t working then maybe ask a priest if there is a blessing or exorcism he could do.
