if you partially type a web address into the address line it automatically completes previously viewed websites beginning with the same letter. try it. it works! i happened to glance up at it when typin in the adress i was looking for and when you see wesite addresses with vulgar names, you dont have to look to know what they are about.
Hi Nuwer,

I’m sorry you are going through all this.

I’m not writing to share any opinion on what you should or shouldn’t do. I just wanted to point out that in some browers (maybe most?) if you type letters into the address bar it will not only show sites that have been visited but suggest sites that start with those letters. For instance, when I type “sn” into my address bar, one of the websites that come up is for brusslesairlines.com. I’ve never booked a flight to brussels, or visited that site.

You might want to try it on your own computer and see if you get sites you haven’t ever visited. Perhaps try it with the browser that your father uses too.

Maybe I mistake what you mean about completing the address, though.

God bless you, and good luck,
VC

The devil loves to keep sin secrect. Satan has more power over someone when sin is hidden from others. The devil hates to be exposed to the light & truth of Jesus Christ. It might be uncomfortable to address your father with this issue, but if not you, who? Are we not going to say anything because it might upset someone or it is not easy? If we truly love someone, we should desire the person to reach heaven. And ignoring sin is not loving the person. We are not helping the soul of a person reach heaven by keeping silent because it might offend someone. Even though it might be difficult, I believe we have to confront sin, especially if it is with someone we love. The truth is not always easy, but it is necessary at all times, not only when it is convenient.

“And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.” (John 8:32)

Come on now-just because someone disagrees with you doesn’t mean they are not reasonable.

Let’s all do our best to make show the moderators don’t need to remind us to remember our manners!

Hey just wanted to let you know I just said a prayer for you that God keeps guiding you!

[When reading on this Catholic forum, I say a prayer to be led by God to what He wants me to hear through other people, especially when I post a thread because you will get an array of opinions 🙂 <–is that sentence a run-on? maybe you pray for discernment too?]

thanks again liza! great advice. i like the idea of reading the letter because often i am bad with words that are spontaneous. premeditated speech is often best for me!😉 and i understand about the letter falling into the wrong hands. good thinking. thank you.

and once again for the record…if you partially type a web address into the address line it automatically completes previously viewed websites beginning with the same letter. try it. it works! i happened to glance up at it when typin in the adress i was looking for and when you see wesite addresses with vulgar names, you dont have to look to know what they are about.

yes, i DID check out the movie because i thought the name sounded funny. guilty as charged. but my dad was the one who opened the page with me sitting right there:shrug:
What do you think will happen if you write your dad the letter. Say you write something along the lines of:

"Dear Dad,

It has come to my attention that you have been viewing pornographic websites and watching pornographic movies since that time 10 years ago when I saw you.

This is very disturbing to me, harmful to my mother (who I’m thinking of telling), and it goes against the teachings of the Catholic Church.

I am worried for your soul, so I thought I’d send you some materials about how to defeat your addition to pornography."

What do you think he’ll think when he reads it? Do you think he’ll say “oh, how I didn’t realize what a terrible thing I have been doing for all these years, and how my dear daughter knew all along the websites I went to and the movies I watched, and now she might tell my wife. I better go to confession and never look at porn again”?

I’m just curious what you think the outcome will be?

Personally I don’t think porn is the main issue here, it’s just that you think that by writing a letter to your dad you seem to believe you have the ability to modify a behavior he’s been engaged in for so many years.

It just sounds really off to me. It’s not how the world works. You can’t write someone a letter about how their habits are wrong and have them react as though you just clarified something for them and they will now do as you say.

I also missed how you took your husband’s gift away when he misbehaved by looking at porn. I’m curious how he reacted to that.
