Yea, that’s a weird situation. Either his sister really is/was as mentally ill as many claim and just made up the abuse allegations against their dad or her brother is just a cruel, cruel human being.

Right. James White. I almost hesitate to say anything about guys like these on this subject. I might just lose my Christian perspective and start saying some nasty things about them. You know, tit for tat. But I’ve argued with a “follower” of James White years ago. He claimed to be an ex-Catholic. But his knowledge of the Church was almost nil. I was a new Catholic and seemed to know more about it than he did. Maybe he was a former Catholic. We need to make sure we are rooted in truth so we don’t get lured away by these sort of people. :hey_bud:

I recently heard that the anti-Catholic Fundamentalist apologist Dave Hunt from the BereanCall Ministries (don’t know if anybody is familiar with them) has just passed away. He spent much of his years speaking out against the Catholic Church saying that it wasn’t Christian and that all Catholics are going to Hell and bringing up stuff like "The Catholic Church is the Whore of Babylon. “The Pope is the Antichrist/False Prophet.” “The Jesuits did this/did that.” “Pope John Paul II wants to establish a One World Religion” “The Pope prays to idols of non-Christian religions” “We’re living in the end times.” And other stuff like that.

Luckily that’s not all he did in his ministry from the research I’ve done about him, but it is true that he has done some anti-Catholicism in his day. I hear that his partner, T. A. McMahon is an ex-Catholic and together they did a lot of anti-Catholic work in their ministry and has influenced him a lot. Now that he has passed away and since he most likely hasn’t repented of his slandering of the Bride of Christ, is it right to say that he’s in Hell right now or should we leave that judgment up to God? He probably was just ignorant and God probably had some mercy on him because of that. Yet at the same time, the Church also teaches that the farther one is away from the Church, the less likely they will be saved. I have no right to judge people, but God however does.

And I’ve always had a strange combination of anger and sorrow for “Christians” like him who try to slander the Church of God claiming that they’re doing it “in the name of God.” I feel angry towards them because they constantly come as “representatives of God” to tear down the Catholic Church, yet I also hope that God has pity on them so that they can go to Heaven when they die. My hope is that he is in Heaven and that God has opened his eyes and now sees the truth of the Church and is praying for his former anti-Catholic colleauges. Yet at the end of the day, only God knows whether he’s in Heaven or whether he’s in Hell. I have no right to judge because I don’t even know if I’m saved.

Purgatory is merciful. We have a loving and merciful God. If he truly is a truth seeker, then he has his “purgatorial work” cut out for him. On judgement day, we are promised that “we will see Him as He is.” If Dave Hunt was truly concerned about heresy, then he will have a chance to make things right. Sadly, his livelihood was based on lying about the Church. He was adamantly opposed to even hearing the truth spoken to him. Pride is a deadly sin. While we can’t say where he will spend all eternity, we can pray that he is willing to be wrong. We are to “humble ourselves in the sight of the LORD.” Revelations 21:8 says that liars will not inherit the Kingdom of Heaven.

I have been trying to figure out why some Christians are so anti-Catholic. It becomes an obsession. I was raised in a very anti-Catholic religion and we hated the Catholic Church with a huge vigor. They were the arch-nemesis. I have had to repent of all that but it took time and humility and well God, and I just pray that any words I spoke in the past to anyone did not affect anyone detrimentally.

I am coming to an understanding that the Catholic Church should be greatly feared, anyone not in the Catholic Church should be very afraid of it. Why? Jesus Christ is it’s head, and no one can prevail against it.

Some branches of Christianity seem to need an enemy to have passion for their religion. It’s really just negative religion. They don’t say what is right with their church, they tell you what is wrong with your church to convert you. Your church is wrong therefore our church is right. Why? Because your church is wrong.
