Muslim women can be banned from wearing veils in schools, courts and other British institutions, David Cameron has said.
The Prime Minister said that he will give his backing to public authorities that put in place “proper and sensible” rules to ban women from wearing face veils in comments which will reignite debates.
It comes as the Government prepare to announce a series of measures designed to stop British Muslims becoming radicalized and traveling to the Middle East to join terrorist groups like the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (Isil).
As part of the plans, ministers will pledge to outlaw gender segregation during meetings in public buildings amid concerns that some Muslim organizations are forcing women to sit separately.

Don’t really have any issue with any of that. Seems to be in line with restrictions that the French have put in place and certain other jurisdictions have put in place make sense. The face veil issue is two fold. First is the security issue, where you can’t use facial recognition, video or even the old mark one eyeball, on someone covering their entire face with a niqab or burqa among other face coverings. Second is the cultural values aspect in those countries where segregating women both personally and at group meetings runs counter to their overall cultural values of openness and equality.

Good. Misogyny and gender discrimination has no place in a civilized society.

Problem is, these women want to wear the veils, and I don’t think they should be banned. Not every woman who wears them will go on to “join up and fight”, they are just practising the faith they believe God wants of them.

Can’t say I fully understand why they wear them, but I’m ignorant of muslim practises.

Perhaps the best way of dealing with it is to ignore them completely?

It’s just common sense and common decency in Europe and I dare say the USA for both men and women to show their faces. When I used to ride a motorcycle during the 70’s and 80’s I would always have to remove my full face helmet in a shop, bank, petrol station, etc. because I could be there for a hold up.🤷 During the winter, cold, rain or snow it was nice and cozy and would always be irksome to take it off. So, to cut to the chase, I have no problem with women wearing scarves over their heads, whether indoors or out, but to be fair i don’t agree with covering the face. How about I tie a bandana over my nose and mouth (wild west outlaw style) and walk into a bank. I wonder how long before the cops arrive.
