I thought the muslims believed in the same OT stories as the Christians…

I think the reason there are several differences in the OT figures in the Quran is that the latter isn’t an history book per say with complete details of events. Islam has to “fill in the blanks” thus leaves lot of room for misinformation. The Quran stories of OT figures is sometimes different than in the OT.
It is but what they believe is their version.I thought the muslims believed in the same OT stories as the Christians…

They believe the Torah and Bible are corrupted so God gave Muhammad the Quran by angel Gabriel telling him what to put out down. Muhammad was illiterate so the Quran was written down and memorized by his companions. Basically, They believe they have the “correct” version. It is but what they believe is their version.![]()
To be fair, the Quran didn’t say Christians corrupted the Bible. Just one little point. They believe the Torah and Bible are corrupted so God gave Muhammad the Quran by angel Gabriel telling him what to put out down. I don’t know if the Quran says it but Muslims believe Priests and Rabbis corrupted the scriptures for their own good. Muslims think Paul was the one to start corruption. To be fair, the Quran didn’t say Christians corrupted the Bible. Just one little point.

The last thing I want to do is defend the QuranI don’t know if the Quran says it but Muslims believe Priests and Rabbis corrupted the scriptures for their own good. Muslims think Paul was the one to start corruption.
I know, I wish everyone could find Christ. Back to the thread, I have heard Muslims talk about David. Whenever they hear about Noah getting drunk or David they believe this:The last thing I want to do is defend the Quran
Yes, Ive heard all what you say Muslims believe.I wish the facts could be made straight but that’s wishful thinking. Ah well.

I think we need to be careful when we make statements that disengage us from talking to Muslims. They are humans first and have the intelligence to know right from wrong.I know, I wish everyone could find Christ. Back to the thread, I have heard Muslims talk about David. Whenever they hear about Noah getting drunk or David they believe this:
Why is the Quranic reference to David’s story concise? -
The Quran mentions this incident briefly and allegorically because it’s the way of Allah Almighty not to mention the personal life of anyone (man or woman) with humiliating or disrespectful details in His Divine Book. And surely, there’s no question of the Quran including untruthful stories based on scandalous gossips. Thus, only tacit allusions have been made to the facts with references to what the actual event obviously was. That also makes it easier for the reader to gauge the extent of its distortion by the People of the Book.
I think we need to be careful when we make statements that disengage us from talking to Muslims. They are humans first and have the intelligence to know right from wrong.
As we know from Jesus, we have to be as charitable as possible. The Quran is a Holy Book for many and the best way imo is not disregard it wholesale but see our similarities and start from there.
I suggest we focus on the truth of the Bible and compare and contrast the differences with Islam’s point of view of their beliefs. I say Bible first because we would know much more about it than the Quran.
The hardest part I find in trying to speak to Muslims is that in my experience they immediately focus on the true language of the Quran and because it is in Arabic, tthen they tell me that there’s likely more problems with the Bible because it has been translated and not in it’s original language.
Peace.

I got that from a Muslim website. I have been interested in Islam because I do find some truth in it. I agree, The original language thing comes up a lot. It is true the Bible has been translated but that still doesn’t take away from the message. I guess they want to see original manuscripts of the Bible.![]()

If you visit several threads on this matter about “original” manuscripts the opinion (and that is what it is) that these have to be found would then give the “true” Bible authenticity and remove any doubt, is unfounded and inconsistent. Especially since the original Quran doesn’t exist. It is true the Bible has been translated but that still doesn’t take away from the message.
Then they (or the opinion) that this Bible must be discovered in order to verify it must be asked of the Quran. It is only fair and just.

The trouble is David’s son Solomon’s (important to Muslims) mother was clearly Bathsheba and she also played an important role in some of Solomon’s decision making. From wikipedia:
"The Judeo-Christian and Islamic views of David, however, differ in some aspects.
Muslims do not accept the sins of adultery and murder attributed to David in the Hebrew Bible, as they feel that prophets - in their belief the utmost chosen and elect of God - would never commit such grave crimes.
The story of Bathsheba and Uriah is also absent in David’s Qur’anic narrative and plays no role in Islamic tradition".
MJ, we had a Muslim poster some years back who feinted surprise when told that David committed adultery and murder of Uriah. She asked where was that in the Bible. So perhaps that is an indication of how an average Muslim would consider that prophets did not sin. More so of Solomon, the wisest of all men. How could his heart swayed away from God and that in his later years he worshipped the gods of his foreign wives? Muslims would be scandalized by this. Thus the question of which Bible they believe if it is not their own version since all of these are recounted in the Christian Bible. The trouble is David’s son Solomon’s (important to Muslims) mother was clearly Bathsheba and she also played an important role in some of Solomon’s decision making.
I then would suppose Solomon’s mother’s role is also unknown in Islam?
MJ
Actually, from what I understand in the biblical text David comitted adultery because he slept with a married woman, not because he was married.I thought the muslims believed in the same OT stories as the Christians…

I read somewhere that in the Quran, King David asked Uriah to divorce Bathsheba. Uriah divorced Bathsheba. David repented when two men came to him with a problem that reminded him of his wrong doings.MJ, we had a Muslim poster some years back who feinted surprise when told that David committed adultery and murder of Uriah. I think they do know about Bathsheba except for her background in the David and Solomon narrative.
