Not even 15 minutes into it and I"m already completely ticked off.

They had a Catholic priest stating that demons were not exorcised from Mary Magdalene, that it was illness. And they kept talking to him!!! This is in direct contrast to Catholic teaching!

It is dangerous to suggest that demons aren’t real, and to have this heresy come from within the Church all over a show like 20/20 is persecution from within!!!

I’m sorry, I’m so upset.

They’re also compring Jesus to normal men! Jesus was NOT a normal man…He is DIVINE!!! The rules which bind the rest of us have never bound him!!!

The PRIEST is saying he was married–likely. This is RIDICULOUS!!!

What channel and what time?
 
It just ended…it was on from 9-10 pm CST on ABC. I’m sure they’re re-run it.

Thank God, he sent me a wonderful phone call just as I was getting REALLY worked up. And it kept me busy through the rest of the show.

I’m sure there are others who saw the whole thing so I hope they post.

I can’t believe they spent an hour progressively defaming our Lord and Savior and other wonderful people (especially Mary Magdalene). It was a completely one-sided thing with the most “liberal” Catholic priest in existence, by his statements. Either that or they railroaded him and edited the entire context of his comments out.
 
I am sad to say we must expect more of this heresy. Satan wishes to destroy the Roman Catholic Church by way of defaming the Blessed Virgin Mary, removing the Divinity of Our Lord, and leading priests and other consecrated souls astray. Then our television networks spread the lies as if it were truth. Many people who are intrigued by the mysterious (remember Big Foot?) will want to believe the whole “secret code” baloney. Read your Bible! It does not hide the fact that Peter was married. If Jesus was married, we would not have to guess that. This whole Da VInci hoax is blaspheming Our Lord, making Mary Magdalene to be more important than Our Blessed Mother, and causing good but uninformed Catholics and non-Catholics to believe things that are not true and to doubt the true faith. The 20-20 episode angered me too, but it only clarifies what Our Lady has warned us about (the apostosy or loss of faith) in numerous apparitions at LaSallette, Fatima, Garabandal, Medjugorje, etc. Lord Have Mercy!
 
I just watched this program…why did they have Fr. McBrien…isn’t he an ultra liberal? Well I guess I’ve just answered my own question…

This program was poorly done IMO… I took a seminar on debunking the DaVinci Code last spring…it was very valuable to me as I know many people who read the book and were actually confused about its veracity. That’s why we need to be informed…we have to help the “little ones” who are being led astray.
 
If you can please purchase the book The Da Vinci Hoax by Carl E Olson and Sandra Miesel. You can purchase it at Catholic Answers website: catholic.com and go to the “shop” tab, put “the da vinci hoax” into the search and it’ll bring you to it. Great and fabulous responce to Dan Brown’s evil book.
 
While I agree the DaVinci code is a horrible history or theological book, IT IS FICTION! Unfortunately, people read or see it these days and think it must be true. However, Jesus DID NOT cleanse Mary Magdelene of demons that is a common misconception.

Keep in mind that Dan Brown IS portraying his book as historically accurate and that his assurtions are true. In tv interviews and in print he claims complete accuracy. So although it is fiction, Dan Brown claims it is fiction based on facts. Unfortunately a lot of people are buying into Dan Brown’s hoax.
 
I watched it. Basically they admit it is all speculation, but then go on to treat it as proven fact. Fr. McBrien makes his usual appearence. Wearing his collar. He ONLY does that when he wants to play priest. He trades on the authority of the collar to convince you what he says is authoritative. I don’t think he ever met a heresy he couldn’t embrace. The anti-Catholicism was not so subtle. Lot’s of our images were misused. They even misuse poor St. Mary Magdalene. She is a CATHOLIC saint folks. Not some gnostic goddess. Maybe if Catholics flew a plane into a big building the media would fall all over themselves to “understand” our faith and learn to “tolerate” it. I really do think the media has lost all sense of irony.

Uh…have you read the gospels lately? It does state clear as day that Jesus did in fact deliver Mary Magdalene of seven demons.

However, there has been a myth portrayed for centuries that she was a prostitute, and there is no evidence, to my understanding that she was this woman. Jesus did help a prostitute and Mary Magdalene was mentioned directly after this but there is nothing (to my incomplete understanding) that specifically and in context denotes her to be the purveyor of the oldest profession in the world.

I’ve been meaning to buy the DaVinci Hoax, and actually a couple of weeks ago I found it in our local book store…so I turned it face-on as though it was a featured book on the shelf…THAT should not be hidden along with all that other stuff surrounding it!

That is a really good point!

AT the beginning of the show he stated that he actually believed he would disprove his theory but his research proved otherwise.

This, folks, is human nature. We all have a bias, and even when we set out to “disprove” it, it’s easy to find information to redeem the idea.

I deal with this every day in my professional work. If I see something not legit in a file I’m working, although the rhetoric is that we’re trying to validate the claim, in reality, when we see something wrong we follow the thread.

Sometimes we’re wrong, and if we’re honest with ourselves we follow the other threads as well and try to find the truth.

Dan Brown had no interest in the truth. He wanted to prove his theory and any statement to the contrary is lip service. He is outright lying;

TRUTH: the book is fiction and he admits this.
TRUTH:: he is portraying the story as truth.

Both of those truths add up to 1 big fat lie, and we know who the father of lies is. And he likes to hide insidiously behind the truth.
 
I would bet this is just a passing fad that an author will become a millionaire on. There’s often just good old fashioned money behind these things. Then 20/20 does a show and he gets to push his book a little more for those who haven’t bought it yet. It’s subtle, but the bottom line is you sell more books. Plus the pro stem research and abortion people like it because it defames the main voice in defense of life today - the Catholic Church. Maybe the abortion/research industry put a little money into this whole thing. Dig around - you’d be surprised what you can find out. The trail usually leads to a money motive.

Not saying I am sure but just something to look into. Plus I do bet that I am at least partially right.

Yeah, totally!

I thought I was going to make it through the day without being horrified about something, and then, I get home and my mom is watching that 20/20 show! I didn’t even know it was on, but my mom said something about Jesus maybe being married to Mary Magdalene, and that painting Da Vinci painted has her in it. Then I heard “the Da Vinci code” and knew I had to get her to change the channel. Well, she did, thankfully. I try to encourage her to better than Methodist doctrine, but only the Lord can affect a true change I know.

This could be for a new thread, but what if Christ had a child? Would that child have original sin? Hmmmmm. I am against such heresy, and theological implications of heretical teachings must be brought out.
This will probably pass over just as well as Hal Lindsey’s “Late Great Planet Earth”, and that’s not very promising. Prepare yourself to combat such teachings with the truth while it’s still relatively young in this form.

The book is VERY informative and indepth!!!

Jesus had babies with Mary. Heresy. They talked to umberto ecco. LOL. Dan Brown. Oh good greif. Some heretical preist. A radical feminist. And people who just made up words to fill in the lost portions of the gnostic gospels. It would say something like “Jesus kissed her on the ____” and the change “her” mary mag and fill in the blank with “mouth” or something otherwise ridiculous to imply sexual contact. If that isn’t definitive proof that Jesus and Mary were getting it on, I don’t what is. LOL. I really can’t beleive that show aired. What is ABC thinking? I laughed the whole way through. What is sad is that people are buying it hook line and sinker. Right after it ended, a funny thing happened. Just when I started getting mad that people were buying this garbage, my alarm clock went off. It plays the radio and it was just some regular station. On the raddio was some old jazzy tune with the words “Lord, Lord, Lord ,” – it made me smile again. :tiphat:

I couldn’t of said it any better myself.

ABC is still hyping Dan Brown’s fictitious theory because of its parent company Walt Disney’s well documented anti-Christian/Catholic agenda. It was one of its subsidiaries Miramax that recently produced “The Magdalene Sisters” and several other films which defame Catholicism in one way or another.
