Dear Brothers and Sisters,

Saturday is Mary’s day so today, we ask her to share with us, her humility. Mary is our Mother and Model; she wants to help us. We see her in the Gospel of Luke and we learn from what she does, and from her words:
“…Mary set out and traveled to the hill country in haste…”( Luke 1:39)
We see humble Mary doing the truth she heard. She obeys in haste.

“…My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord; my spirit rejoices in God my savior. For he has looked upon his handmaid’s lowliness…” (Luke 1:46 - 48)
We hear Mary’s humility immediately praise God, responding to Elizabeth’s praise of Mary’s faith.

Continuing Week 1 of seeking true knowledge of self, let us do as St. Louis encourages us to do:
228…They will ask our Lord and the Holy Spirit to enlighten them saying, “Lord, that I may see,” or “Lord, let me know myself,” or the “Come, Holy Spirit”. Every day they should say the Litany of the Holy Spirit… They will turn to our Blessed Lady and beg her to obtain for them that great grace which is the foundation of all others, the grace of self-knowledge. For this intention they will say each day the Ave Maris Stella and the Litany of the Blessed Virgin.
Let us not fear to look at ourselves, but rather let us go with haste before the Lord that we may receive grace to hear the truth about ourselves from Him and do the truth we hear. Let us learn from Jesus and Mary the great Mercy of God and humble ourselves before Him.

READING Isaiah 1:16-18

Wash yourselves clean!

Put away your misdeeds from before my eyes;
cease doing evil; learn to do good.
Make justice your aim; redress the wronged,
hear the orphan’s plea, defend the widow.
Come now, let us set things right,
says the Lord:
Though your sins be like scarlet,
they may become white as snow;
Though they be crimson red,
they may become white as wool.

At the feet of Mary we can stare into the abyss of our misery without despairing.

Peace

Dear hazcompat,

Thanks for your reply containing this beautiful Reading from Isaiah. My husband and I were both touched and blessed by the same Reading, earlier today, in praying the Liturgy of the Hours, Morning Prayer.

Yes, it is at the feet of Mary who sang of her own lowliness, in her Magnificat, that we can look into the abyss of our misery without despairing. I’ve often thought how a mother is always more aware of her weakest child, watching over that one with special care. My hope is in the perfect reflection of God’s Mercy which shines through our Mother.
