Dear Brothers and Sisters,

St. Louis de Montfort wrote:
…devotion to our Lady, known and practiced by very few persons, is this I am about to disclose to you, predestinate soul. It consists in giving one’s self entirely and as a slave to Mary, and to Jesus through Mary, and after that, to do all that we do, through Mary, with Mary in Mary and for Mary…
During this week, then we are obeying Jesus’ words from the Cross: “Behold your Mother”. We are looking at Mary in Scripture and in the writings of saints like St. Louis to learn how we can give ourselves and become as she was on this earth – a perfect disciple of Jesus, bringing Him to others.

Let us remember what St. Louis wrote about this first week:

“229. Each day of the second week they should endeavour in all their prayers and works to acquire an understanding of the Blessed Virgin and ask the Holy Spirit for this grace. They may read and meditate upon what we have already said about her. They should recite daily the Litany of the Holy Spirit and the Ave Maris Stella as during the first week. In addition they will say at least five decades of the Rosary for greater understanding of Mary.”

Please let us pray with great attention and devotion, the Litany of the Holy Spirit, the Ave Maris Stella and the Rosary, asking the Holy Spirit for a better understanding of Mary, our Mother. Please let us remember to pray for one another also and for all those in most need of His Mercy, through Mary.

From St. Louis De Montfort’s Prayer to Mary

“…that I may have no other heart but thine to love God with a love as pure and ardent as thine…”

My soul continues to call my being to reflect upon the heart of Mary.

Peace

I have been a member of the Legion of Mary for about 4 years now and it has truly strengthened my faith and has made me happy in knowing I was part of something really meaningful and doing what our Lord would want me to do as a disciple of Christ. He loves His Mother and wants us all to love her and honor her, and never forget her. Our Blessed Mother DOES bring us closer to God, and wants to help us and protect us while we walk this earth. I recommend anyone who is Catholic, to join the closest Legion of Mary Presidium, or start one at their parish! It’s a life changer for the better, allowing our Lord to work through us. Keeping His thoughts and prayers ever present, everyday… If in doubt, read up on it. The Legion of Mary began in 1921 by Frank Duff in Dublin,Ireland.

Dear Lu Lu and Dorothy,

Thank you both for your replies. Yes, countless blessings come to us when we behold our Mother Mary. All grace comes through her. I joined the Legion of Mary at age 15 as a junior legionary, member of Mary, Praise of the Trinity Praesidium, and made my Total Consecration to Jesus through Mary there. Now as a member of our parish adult Praesidium, Queen of Peace, I continue to be blessed.

I join Lu Lu in encouraging anyone who wants to know more about the Legion to visit the official website HERE If your parish does not have a Legion of Mary group, you can ask your parish secretary to give you the phone number of your Diocese to find the Legion group closest to you. If there are none in your area, you may want to talk to your Pastor. The Legion does not go into any Diocese without the permission of the Bishop and it cannot begin in a parish without the Pastor’s permission.

You can read about the founder of the Legion, Servant of God Frank Duff at the website, as well as Venerable Edel Quinn and Servant of God Alphonsus Lamb – all three of them have their causes in Rome for eventual beatification and canonization. The postulator for the cause of Edel Quinn who brought the Legion to Africa called the Legion of Mary a “saint maker”! The Legion founded 94 years ago now has millions of members all over the world.

Dear hazcompat,

Thanks for posting the beautiful words from St. Louis De Montfort’s Prayer to Mary. Mary’s heart is so united to the Trinity I can hardly think of her without finding my soul glorifying the Lord with her.

In his True Devotion paragraph 225, St. Louis wrote:
…you never think of Mary without Mary thinking of God for you. You never praise or honour Mary without Mary joining you in praising and honouring God. Mary is entirely relative to God. Indeed I would say that she was relative only to God, because she exists uniquely in reference to him.
She is an echo of God, speaking and repeating only God. If you say “Mary” she says “God”. When St. Elizabeth praised Mary calling her blessed because she had believed, Mary, the faithful echo of God, responded with her canticle, “My soul glorifies the Lord.” What Mary did on that day, she does every day. When we praise her, when we love and honour her, when we present anything to her, then God is praised, honoured and loved and receives our gift through Mary and in Mary.
