Day 3 - Feast of the Assumption of Mary

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

Happy and Holy Feast of Our Mother and Queen of Heaven! What a beautiful Feast to celebrate with God and His precious Daughter, Mother and Spouse! I remembered a hymn, taught by my high school music teacher, A Dominican nun; but I could only sing a few lines of the opening: “The trumpets of heaven triumphantly roll, as Mary’s fair body re-enters her soul…” It was written by Fr. Daniel Lord, SJ. Perhaps I’ll look it up on the internet and post the words later.

The end we have in view for this 33 Day journey is to join Mary, our Mother and Queen, in the Beatific Vision. What a glorious destiny is set before us as children of God and heirs of heaven! Let us never give in to any deceit of the devil who tempts us with his lies, as he tempted Eve. Let us be like Mary who remained in God’s Word – victorious!

Someone seeking to empty self of the spirit of the world, may ponder: what is the ‘spirit of the world’ and how can I know if I am filled with it fully or even partially? How do I know if I’m following that spirit and not the spirit of Jesus which is the spirit of Mary? St. John helps us:
…Do not love the world or the things of the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world, sensual lust, enticement for the eyes, and a pretentious life, is not from the Father but is from the world. Yet the world and its enticement are passing away. But whoever does the will of God remains forever…(1 John 2: 15 - 17)

St. John the Beloved Disciple knew that all God created has a certain goodness because it came from God, but he is warning us that we cannot love those things in the world which are not from the Father : “all that is in the world: sensual lust, enticement for the eyes and a pretentious life” – these things are not from the Father but from the world. These are the things we need to “see” perhaps with new eyes. We need to ask God to purify our hearts, that we may see with the eyes of our heart set on loving God.

Mary’s heart was fully set on God and today’s Gospel shows us in her words how fully she was filled with God. (Luke 1:39 - 56).

My Queen and my Mother pray for all your children that we may become like you, one with God in the perfection of charity!
 
Today is the 61st anniversary of my Baptism. August 15, 1954.

Dear hazcompat,

What a wonderful Feast Day on which to be baptized! I shall remember you especially in my Rosary today, that you remain always in the “crossing of Mary’s arms”. How precious and faithful our Mother Mary is to us as we journey here on earth, and she awaits all her children in heaven! 🙂

Thanks so much for your reply, and for joining us on this journey. We had a concelebrated Mass in our parish too. I was so grateful we had a special Mass to honor Mary’s Feast – usually we do not have a Saturday morning Mass except on First Saturdays.

May Our Blessed Mother intercede for us especially during these days of preparation for our Total Consecration to Jesus through Mary. May we be more attentive and devoted than ever before, focusing on God’s call to each of us to “Be Holy, for I am Holy.” How God deserves ALL the love in our hearts! How we as brothers and sisters of Jesus need to daily hear His Truth and do the Truth we hear, by the power of His Holy Spirit, as Mary did on this earth. As one grows in grace we all grow, building up the Body of Christ in Love. (cf Ephesians 4).
