Dear Brothers and Sisters,
Preparing for Consecration (or re-consecration) to Jesus through Mary, we are in our third day: seeking to “empty ourselves of the spirit of the world”. In his treatise on “True Devotion” De Montfort wrote:
Although in Baptism, we are restored to a share in Divine Life, lost by Adam and Eve, we have still inherited that propensity toward sin called “concupiscence” which causes us to battle throughout our lives against evil which persists against us. Our temptations to commit sin come to us from temptations suggested by the evil spirit, or by those who continually believe in his lies, or by our own lack of faith. God gives grace to fight temptations, but often our will to sin is stronger than our will not to sin, we often fail to pray in temptation and we fall. God in His Mercy continues to offer us grace to get up and go to our Father, as the prodigal son did. We can, by His grace, repent and believe in His Mercy once more. We have the beautiful sacrament of Confession which offers us the healing of forgiveness and the strength to begin again to resist sin and grow in faith, hope and above all charity.
Mary our Mother is the Mother of Mercy, and she is even at this moment interceding for us. Last night, as I re-read the Introduction to True Devotion, by St. Louis de Montfort, I remembered reading that his original title or subtitle for this treatise was “Preparation for the Reign of Jesus Christ”. In my own little paperback copy the title page has: “True Devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary” and below that the words “or Preparation for the Reign of Jesus Christ”. Both the title and/or the subtitle ring true because if we are truly devoted to Mary as the one whom God chose to bring Jesus to reign, than we are preparing to receive Him through her, that He may reign most perfectly with us.
Mary, Mother of Mercy, pray for us and with us.
Come Holy Spirit, bring us into all the Truth of Jesus.
St. Louis de Montfort, pray for us.

St. Louis de Montfort sees, as did the Apostle John in his first letter (1 John 2:15-17) the spirit of the world is opposed to the spirit of Jesus. When St. Louis or St John speak of “the world”, they are not speaking of the beautiful creation and all God has created for man to enjoy and in which is evidence that God exists. They are speaking of the “spirit of the world” brought into creation by the prince of darkness, satan, in the Garden of Eden. This fallen angel Lucifer, deceived our first parents who believed his lie and committed the original sin.
