Day 5 - Mary, Model on our journey

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

As we journey toward the Total Consecration of ourselves to Jesus through Mary, let us listen to St. Louis de Montfort’s words in the First Chapter of “True Devotion”:

…20. God the Holy Spirit, who does not produce any divine person, became fruitful through Mary whom he espoused. It was with her, in her and of her that he produced his masterpiece, God-made-man, and that he produces every day until the end of the world the members of the body of this adorable Head. For this reason the more he finds Mary his dear and inseparable spouse in a soul the more powerful and effective he becomes in producing Jesus Christ in that soul and that soul in Jesus Christ…

In seeking to “rid oneself of the spirit of the world” as human persons, we have Mary as our Model. Her openness to the Holy Spirit, her “Yes” to God is the Model for all God’s Holy Church and each member of His Body. Beholding our Mother, we see in her, all we are called to be and therefore, we seek to rid ourselves of any spirit that is not like hers. St. Louis De Montfort further wrote:

…36. When the Holy Spirit, her spouse, finds Mary in a soul, he hastens there and enters fully into it. He gives himself generously to that soul according to the place it has given to his spouse. One of the main reasons why the Holy Spirit does not work striking wonders in souls is that he fails to find in them a sufficiently close union with his faithful and inseparable spouse. I say “inseparable spouse”, for from the moment the substantial love of the Father and the Son espoused Mary to form Jesus, the head of the elect, and Jesus in the elect, he has never disowned her, for she has always been faithful and fruitful.

Come Holy Spirit, increase your gifts in us as you did in our Mother as she walked this earth. Enable us by grace to bring forth Jesus in our lives.

Mary, Mother and Model for all your children, intercede for us that we may truly rid ourselves of the spirit of the world, each day.

O Jesus living in Mary, come and live in your servants, in the spirit of holiness, in the fullness of your power, in the perfection of your ways, in the truth of your virtues, in the communion of your mysteries. Rule over every adverse power, in your Spirit, for the glory of the Father. Amen.

I love this idea that the more God finds Our Lady in a soul, the more eagerly He comes to that soul. It is an encouragement and emboldens a heart that might feel reluctant or unsure about this devotion.

Yes, I believe St. Louis de Montfort heard the Truth of God deeply in Sacred Scripture: “…when the fullness of time had come, God sent his Son, born of a woman…” (Gal 4:4)
God sent Jesus tho us through Mary and we do best in returning to Our Father in Jesus through Mary as well, by the power of His Holy Spirit. When God sees a soul loving Mary and being “in the crossing of her arms” then He is pleased to be with that soul in a special way for that soul is imitating Jesus – Who loves His Mother and is eternally untied with her now.

The baptized are members of the Body of Christ and are intended to grow as Jesus grew in wisdom, age and grace before God and men. It is an encouragement for us to hear Jesus’ words from the cross: “Behold Your Mother” inclining our hearts to love her as He loves her! Thanks for your reply.
