Hi. I have some sort of problem with daydreaming to the point where I feel I live 3 different lives. In one of My daydream scenarios I picture myself just the way I am now except this version of myself is more popular, has a girlfriend, more good looking, and more outgoing. I daydream about this scenario the most. The other scenario i daydream myself is really and I mean really unrealistic… I’m a professional soccer player who is a superstar in the sport. I always picture myself doing things altheltes would normally do like update my twitter, talking in press conference, and avoiding paparazzi. On average I daydream maybe I dunno… 24 hours a day! It’s starting to bug me because it does take up to much of my time which is better spent on studying or working out. When I daydream I’m also waking around the house while listening to music. ( I believe listening to music is one of the triggers so I’m starting to cut down on it) It would be nice if anyone can give me more advice to stop this unhealty habbit that doesn’t require me going to a physiologist. I’m really getting tired of living in the Matrix.

Daydreaming can be a good thing, a creative outlet, good form of moral escapism, and even goal-setting. but if you’re finding you daydream TOO MUCH, try engaging in activities that require your full attention or, what works for me (I’ve always got my head in Neverland!) is to incorporate my real world takes into something my daydreams can make more fun. I hate doing laundry, but pretending I’m going to have important company or a big party helps me get it done!

I guess it becomes problematic because it cuts into tasks, errands that you just have to do.
So… I guess, planning your day. A To-Do list from time to time to keep you on task.
Perhaps the daydreaming is a way to avoid the more difficult decisions that have to be made.
I guess they do reveal, to so some extent, your hopes and dreams {and we label them as dreams in contrast to what is the case here and now}. What steps have to be taken to realize some of these hopes and dreams?

Daydreaming is all about you.
Try to become more about other people.
We are judged on our genuine thoughtfulness and kindness to others. Jesus says so in Matthew chapter 25 in verses 25 to 46
Jesus summed up the Commandments with, love God above all, others as self.

God bless!

Set aside some time every day to meditate on the Passion of our Lord Jesus Christ. That good habit can help you overcome the day dreaming.

I have had a similar problem. So, what I do is first to pray that God will stop the constant daydreaming but, if not, that He will turn the daydreaming into good, faith-filled, moral dialogues rather than sin.

We can’t control our thoughts for the most part, but we can keep praying for freedom or victory.

This is a classic young over active intelligent mind…
You mind is wanting to absorb more information than you can feed it with…
So it comes up with its own,by day dreaming, then because it comes up with more stimulating things than you can give it, it takes full control… You need to wrest control back with discipline, a good student counsellor which can be hard to find may help…
Or. What you can do is ,… Train your brain…control it by meditation,
Have certain times of the day where you relax and let you mind go where ever it wants to go
…but then you tell your mind that between this hour till that hour it must do study or work…
And when it starts to wonder off you say to yourself , it’s not your time yet, it’s not 6 p.m .
At 6 p.m you can dream… That’s only 4 hours to go… It may take practise but it will work…
Good luck.

I suffer from the same problem, so don’t feel ashamed. You are not alone. Some daydreaming is perhaps okay (maybe even inevitable) as long as it doesn’t take over your life.
Just be careful as it could possibly be an indicator for Attention Deficit Hyper Disorder (ADHD) in which case you may need medication. Go see a doctor if your problem gets out of control.

Sometimes I do dream I have money enough for the bus fare to Church, and being healthy enough, I suffer from depression and panic-attacks and retired. But to dream all day is not a good thing. Make up a schedule and permit your self to dream for one hour let us say at 6PM and before that you need to pray the Rosary, or at any time that is OK for you, but do it. Soon you will find out that there is a “real” world outside your “own”. You may not be the best guy around but remember that in the eyes of God you and your life is perfect as long as you have faith. And if you lack faith, turn to Our Blessed Virgin, She will see you thru hard times.

This is really good advice. I found that the more that I take time to pray and meditate in the day, the more likely I am focused outward on others and God.

Take delight in the Lord, and He will give you the desires of your heart. -Psalm 37:4

I regularly daydream about stuff that isn’t even possible. We’re talking epic fantasy battles here. Then I write about it.

IMO there’s nothing wrong with daydreaming if you can channel it into something useful, like a creative process that has a goal. Maybe you could take up some kind of artistic hobby, like drawing, writing, painting, sculpting, woodcarving, etc. It could help you channel your energy and imagination into something beautiful that inspires other people.

If you need to stop daydreaming and focus on something, say a prayer to God to help you focus! 🙂
