im kind of at a loss here I know that Nov 1st is all saints day and a day of obligation yet I have a class going on at the time that the mass is being held. is it ok to go to the vigil mass instead or should I miss class or confess it at my next confession…

Help.

Thanks
God bless.

if a Mass is offered this evening yes of course you can go instead, that is why it is being offered. If not at your parish, call around neighboring parishes for their Mass schedules, without too much effort you ought to be able to find a time that fits your schedule.

Newone, here’s an important tip for you. When a parish goes to the trouble and expense to offer a Mass on the vigil of a feast day, or the evening of a feastday or Sunday or whatever, you can trust that it will fulfill your obligation. Parishes will not spend time and money to do things that will confuse people or lead them into error about their Mass obligation.

There are some people who are “more Catholic than the Pope” who will tell you that the vigil Mass is not as good as Mass on the feastday for some reason or another, but that is not what the Church teaches.

on days of holy obligation if one could not attend mas is it a sin.
for e.g if the person has to be at the bus station say 5:30 am for work and closes by 8:00pm and so could not attend mass is it a sin.

There is no obligation to attend Mass on the holy days if it is truly impossible because of your work. Check the neighboring parishes to see if any time will work for you. Can you go to a parish near your workplace at lunch time? Perhaps you could discuss this with your priest ahead of time for your own peace of mind.

Can you get to the vigil Mass tonight?

Did you talk to your professor? He could be accomodating for you. Mine is allowing me to reschedule my test and lab on Friday so that I can attend a Tridentine Liturgy for All Souls’ Day.
