I know that in specific circumstances, and as allowed by the Ordinary, priests can trinate (say 3 Masses in one day). Our deacon will be preaching at the 3 Christmas Eve Masses today (the “midnight” Mass being at 11 PM). Should he be receiving Communion at all 3 Masses?

Hmm…

The only person who absolutely has to receive communion is the priest. I don’t think it’s necessary for the deacon, consequently, to receive communion thrice. In fact, it might be against Canon Law.

Someone else clear this up?

He might be the deacon at only 1 or 2 of the Masses and only come out to preach at the other.

I don’t know what’s taught in seminaries. Would a deacon need to ask this question or would he be expected to know?
