I’m reasonably sure that a man who is an ordained deacon can be a Godfather. Question is: Could a deacon be a Godfather to a child that he is actually baptizing?

Of course a deacon can be a Godfather. But I don’t know if a godparent can also be the minister of baptism.I’m reasonably sure that a man who is an ordained deacon can be a Godfather. Question is: Could a deacon be a Godfather to a child that he is actually baptizing?

I don’t know the answers to this question. But I do know that during liturgies and ceremonies it is best for individuals to only have one role. SO I am going to have to say that a deacon (or priest for that Matter) should baptize their godchild.

1/ be designated by the one to be baptized, by the parents or the person who takes their place, or in their absence by the pastor or minister and have the aptitude and intention of fulfilling this function;
As you can see it does not explicitly prohibits the Deacon from baptizing and being godparent at the same time BUT implicitly it mandates the Deacon to select a sponsor.
As a Deacon, I would not want to be Godparent too, since they both have specific roles in the rite. I hope this helps.
