Dead pets (dog) interceding for one in Heaven?

Now, man is not wrong when he regards himself as superior to bodily concerns, and as more than a speck of nature or a nameless constituent of the city of man. For by his interior qualities he outstrips the whole sum of mere things. He plunges into the depths of reality whenever he enters into his own heart; God, Who probes the heart, awaits him there; there he discerns his proper destiny beneath the eyes of God. Thus, when he recognizes in himself a spiritual and immortal soul, he is not being mocked by a fantasy born only of physical or social influences, but is rather laying hold of the proper truth of the matter.
Gauudium et Spes 14:2

It enables us to encounter our full destiny in God. This has nothing to do with God’s animals. Even in this life we hear, seek, find and have some understanding of God that animals do not. We do not know their experience. But they are certainly here even though different than us.

I find Romans 8:19-23 to be very interesting. To me it speaks of a future time when all of creation will share in the eternal glory of God’s children and all will be freed from death.

“For the creation waits with eager longing for the revealing of the sons of God. For the creation was subjected to futility, not willingly, but because of him who subjected it, in hope that the creation itself will be set free from its bondage to corruption and obtain the freedom of the glory of the children of God. For we know that the whole creation has been groaning together in the pains of childbirth until now. And not only the creation, but we ourselves, who have the firstfruits of the Spirit, groan inwardly as we wait eagerly for adoption as sons, the redemption of our bodies.”

:I have had many cats in my lifetime. I would love to see my beloved Sheba Sue (“Mommy’s Forever Baby”) and Francesca Caccini (“Mommy’s Baby”) once more for cuddle and kiss time. I know it probably sounds irrational, both cats have been dead for years, but I still grieve and cry over them. I miss them. :bighanky:

This doesn’t sound irrational to me at all, and I have faith that G-d will fulfill all our good wishes in the afterlife.

I know exactly where you’re coming from! :bighanky:

Look at you being the voice of calm and reason in this otherwise over-the-top thread. 👍

Poor JC, starting this thread to ask how to help his friend – and it’s gone spiraling off into theological arguments that cannot be answered without a declaration ex cathedra apparently. 🤷

At my school we teach our students Steven Covey’s 7 Habits (it’s called The Leader In Me at elementary schools). Habit 1 teaches students (and us adults) to focus our energy in areas where we actually have influence, and to avoid spinning our worry wheels in areas about which we are concerned but have no influence.

So maybe our time is better spent caring for the creatures in our care rather than worrying about whether they will be with us in heaven. The former is where I have some influence. The latter is God’s business and something over which I have no influence whatsoever – unless someone here is suggesting I baptize and catechize the pets in my care and the wild critters in the neighborhood. :rotfl:

Well . . . it **is **the feast day of Saint Francis of Assisi. Just sayin’.

Don’t recall him ever baptizing any of them or claiming they will go to Heaven but I’ll ask him when I get there, “why not”??, God Bless, Memaw

I really believe this is all opinion—on both sides.

But why is the word “soul” in Genesis, which is “Nefesh” the very same word used for humans and animals alike? Where exactly is the distinction?

There is no basis for saying that animals do have or don’t have eternal souls. We can’t even see our own souls…so how do we know for sure about animals.?
Memaw gave you this way back, and honestly some of this obsession now is bordering on the occult where no one here should be walking.

Please read back.

And forget the old words in foreign languages that have been misinterpreted to suit strange folk and which mean not what you are saying they mean.

Well, I think that if I had a pet, and I was told in a dream not to worry about my pet because it would be taken care of in heaven…and if I woke up the very next day to find that my pet had died…would I believe that my pet had ceased to exist? Or would I believe that my pet was in heaven being taken care of, just like I was told? I think I’d believe that an angel or the Lord had revealed this to me. And I’d be grateful.
DREAMS? Is that what this is all about ? Dreams? Oh dear! Dreams are figments of your innate wishes or junk that happened during your day. I have really bizarre dreams but they are not from God and some are so real I have to shake myself They are just dreams not divine revelations,

"And I heard every creature in heaven and on earth and under the earth and in the sea, and all that is in them, saying, “To him who sits on the throne and to the Lamb be blessing and honor and glory and might forever and ever!” (Revelation 5:13)

Every creature on earth — man, animals,
Every creature in the sea —fish
Every creature in Heaven — man and angels only? and they’re called “creatures”? Not “beings”?
Sure they sing glory to God, So? And Revelation is an allegory

Good quote. And here is Ecclesiastes:

So the writer here is admitting that the ‘spirit of animals’ does go somewhere after death. Like I said earlier, spirits are energy and energy cannot be destroyed. It has to go somewhere. It does not imply that there are animals in heaven. Why should there be? They cannot contemplate God. Their spirit goes somewhere else, perhaps they just hang around earth unnoticed by us humans.
No he is querying as you are and with no more authority than you.

Bolded is hilarious!

SOme of this gives cause for concern .

One is that much is getting dangerously near the occult, And obsessive

Another is that it all shows undue and unhealthy attachmnt to the creation, something we are warned against …

Where in all thi s is Jesus? Our Lord and Our Saviour to Whom we owe joyously all our praise, ALL OUR LOVE.

WHo treats critters as we need to ; as helpers, food but nothing more. He uses them eg the Gadarene swine, to heal, The fatted calf to celebrate, the sacrificial lamb…

Never a hint of anything more

Oh yes, He tells us it is wrong to give dogs what children need.

Makes my old heart ache to think of so much attachment to critters when there are so many children in such dire need.

Easy to care for critters of course. Hard to love people.

Meander on

and I found the quote Memaw posted

CCC, 1703, Endowed with “A SPIRITUAL AND IMMORTAL” SOUL, THE HUMAN PERSON IS “THE ONLY CREATURE ON EARTH THAT GOD HAS WILLED FOR IT’S OWN SAKE.” FROM HIS CONCEPTION, HE IS DESTINED FOR ETERNAL BEATITUDE

I am with Jesus on this and in everything. I live my cats and they support and give as i support and give to them, but that is all…

I am with Jesus night and day and with those who love Him above all else

Over and out. shudders at this thread… SHUDDERS. Thought better of so many here…
Off to pray and work . SO COLD NOW

This post is just pointless speculation…nobody except God knows if there are or will be animals or pets… in heaven…God did create them for a purpose…what that purpose is only God knows…nobody here…including me…has no understanding…no knowledge… or no authority to pronounce anything on who or what might or might not be in heaven…we’ll find out when we get there…period
