Dead Saints on display

Why does the CC have dead Saints bodies on display, and why would they even dig them up in the first place? Thank you.

Sometimes they were never buried at all. Other times, a church might have been under renovation, and the body’s crypt might have been moved to repair something, and the body was discovered to have been preserved from corruption, and thus put on displace as a devotional.

As the body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, non-corruption is considered a sign of favor, and is used to inspire piety among devotees of the Saint.
 
Well I read they were dug up and one even 3 different times. Also I think its quite awful to have dead bodies on display, let alone dig them up or worst yet perhaps never of had buried them in the first place, and I have a hard time thinking people go and look at them.
 
This is something the church has been doing for quite a long time, and I see no reason to dislike the practice. Christians have nothing to fear from death, and to see that a Saint has been preserved from decay of the physical body is a sign of high favor from God. Therefore, having their bodies on display is a testament to the miracle of their incorruptibility and, as a previous poster said, a wonderful way to inspire devotion and piety. If one person can become holy enough to gain that kind of favor with God, anyone can.

They’re Saints. I’m certain that they are enjoying the highest glory obtainable by man in Heaven right now, and, quite honestly, probably don’t care what is going on with their bodies.

You do know that many of the older Saints aren’t even in one piece anymore, right? Several of the Saints have been divided up between different churches, often across several countries.

Oh please, I don’t have a problem with death, but one should have respect for the dead,
I personally think its a hideous thing. Why do Catholics need all these miracles to have faith in God.

They don’t. Faith is about more than miracles. Seeing a miracle and knowing that God is at work is something that inspires awe and reaffirms the faith that each Catholic should already have. No more, no less.

I’m very sorry that having Saints on display is upsetting to you, Luv. I don’t really know what else I can say to you about the subject. I hope that you are having a wonderful and blessed day, otherwise. I’ll leave further debate to people more learned in the teachings of the Catholic church than I.
 
I think it can serve as a proof that someone that holy actually lived…can make it more real.
People do the same thing with “relics” from rock stars etc. The difference is that with the Saints, they are being honored for their virtue instead of something else.

For many, the viewing of the physical remains of a Saint can make them feel intensely connected to that Saint. For others, this connection might not be there…but why condemn it just because it might not have the same effect for everyone? We are all wired differently.

I think it is a terrible temptation for people to rationalize that the type of virtue exercised by the Saints must be exaggerated, must be out of human reach. For many, however, the presence of real, physical relics can help to dispel that thought process and inspire us to live according to the example of that Saint.
 
hey if yous want to venerate dead bodies go right ahead.

I have a problem with the CC itself doing this (they use to do this in acient pagen religions, like mummys on display . I don’t know of any Rock Stars that have their body on display other than in stature form and I don’t venerate them either.
 
I was listening to EWTN the other day. I wasn’t aware Pope John XXIII was incorrupt. Yes there are many.

I can see your point and in a sense agree if it was a matter of just putting dead bodies on display. This however is not the case and would encourage you to look up the veneration of relics and the respect, reverence and care these holy peoples remains and objects are afforded. Opening our minds to respected traditions and not look on them with a modernist mentallity maybe the key to understanding ( not agreeing ). Peace to you.

this has nothing to do with the saints themselves. I feel sorry for them being on display.
Personally I have faith in Jesus and what he did at the cross and that he rose from the dead , I don’t need to have faith in the Saints.

We do and we will continue to venerate the Saints, and yes, you’ve made it clear you don’t like it. So what? Pro-abortionists don’t like it that the Church supports life. The Church will not be changing on that topic, either.

what does this have to do with abortion?? nothing.

these Saints were apparently suppose to be very humble and a humble person would not want their body on display. I hope they don’t do this with Mother Therasa.
